The Duck Thread

Mine will walk right up to me and nibble on my boots and eat out of my hand as long as I am holding perfectly still. If I move, however, they will walk away and make sure to keep some distance between us, lol.

So those ducks from the neighbors came back and I have them in my run. They are a pair of pekins. I am torn on keeping them. They are ravenous and eat everything so they obviously need some good food and aren't getting any where they live. However, my drake cannot stand the new drake and aggressive towards him (even though the new drake is much bigger) and chases the duck all around trying to mate with her and stressing her out. They are in their own separate run for now but that's not an option during the winter. I'm toying with the idea of rehoming them, but then I'd be worried they aren't going to go to a good home.
@Pyxis Sounds like they are really making up for lost feedings. Can you split your pen down the middles so they can all still be together but separate? Yesterday when at the grocery store I saw alot more frozen ducks and geese in the freezer section this is not a good time to re home Pekins. Or any other breed for that matter if you don't want them eaten.
So nice of you to take them in. What about water fowl rescues in your area?

Ugh. Sad. Great suggestions, Miss Lydia.

I didn't even think of them being eaten :(

Well they ran off again. Not sure how they managed to get out of the pen but they did. They came back and got some more food from the feeder but then Hershey, my drake, promptly ran them off. So I guess for now we're back to them coming and eating here occasionally.

C'mon 'lings!!!!
What kind are you incubating?

they are from my mixed flock. At the time of set I had a Peking & 2 Rouen hens and a Peking, a Rouen & 2 Khaki Campbell drakes. A few days ago I traded my 2 Khaki Campbells for 2 Welsh Harlequin hens. They are only about 12 weeks old so they wont be laying probably until spring.

ETA: the khakis were getting more business done than the other two. So they will be most likely khaki crosses.

wanted to update that Elijah is awesome! As if nothing ever happened. I don't quite understand how he went from near death to absolutely wonderful. God. That's the only explanation. And Moses is just thrilled that his buddy is back. My only thought is that Elijah accidentally ate a diluted moth ball. I know I know!!!! Terribly fatal!!! I think it being diluted is why he's not dead. It's a long story on how he got to it,but after this,I'm taking necessary steps to make sure this doesn't happen again. Thank you all for the sound advice and prayers. I appreciate this thread.

Hello! My fiancé just surprised me with some new additions to the flock: four adorable crested ducklings. I am aware of the lethal gene that creates this mutation, so these babies are just for showing / pets. I have a couple of quick questions!

1. I'm just now getting into showing... Can you show any color of crested duck? We have a blue bibbed, two magpie, and a white.

2. It'll be December when they're ready to go outside. We have a duck house and a fenced in run. We plan on slowly getting them used to the cold before just throwing them outside. Will they be fine as long as they have access to an enclosed shelter and we put straw on the ground?

Thanks guys! Here's the babies:
400

1. Dr. Doom (drake)
400

2. Afro Samurai (duck)
400

3. Ladybird (duck)
400

4. Flocksy Cleopatra (duck)

Thanks again!
