The Duck Thread

Everyone wants Julie to have ducks, just waiting on the word to send her some. lol
I love you!! Yay. I am working on it. In major property/house hunting mode and it is why I am so scarce on here. Plus my buddy says he would give me his duck run/coop for free. Then I can have my own webs.

lol, that gave me a chuckle... and x2...

These guys hatched Thanksgiving for Io, and Dec 2nd for the other 3... doing fine at 28 now, supposed to be 14 tonight...

EEE SQUEE and look at the webs feets prints in the snow. Look at my Io gurl. She a tuffy not affected by the cold at all. She my baby.

I know. Thank you. It would be. I just get so squealie over the ducks I see on here. Even the wild ones, too. There's something truly just fun and sweet about them.

So far my husband says NO!! NO DUCKLINGS! NO MORE DUCKS! He has consented to letting me get these in May to increase the flock by a few. Since he has to chase them out of his shop, I guess I have to listen (at least this time!) lol. But he IS coming around. He knows that I really enjoy them so he puts up with them.

My DH used to say the same but now it's no more ducklings in the house, lol. I can have as many as I want now, just not inside

I check again today but they're back to normal. It may be a while before they do it again but I'll post a video when I can.
That's good to hear.

This will be my first experience with a Momma and babies. Do I need to provide food for them when they hatch?? Should I keep them penned up or let them free range with Bugs?
Seriously ya'll, I have no idea what to do for a Momma and babies. My husband tells me to just let nature do its thing but I'm worried. She's sitting in the high rise pen and has been flying up and down when she goes out for a swim, even though she doesn't have to. The ramp is baby safe but should I move her to the ground? Do Mommas take their babies out right away?

If it's safe, I would leave them there... she should wait a bit til they're ready to come out... yes, put food and water right near her for them... it also should help her stay put if she has food and water within reach as well...

How cold is it? You still need to feed them crumbles and keep clean water (no easy feat). She will set until she has decided enough have hatched to suit her. Then she will take the babies and leave the unhatched eggs. Lots of things like to eat ducks if all sizes, so make sure they are in a safe place. Mama will teach them to eat and drink and will keep them warm and they will follow her everywhere. The babies won't climb a ramp for a while, keep everything at their level at first. Don't forget to take lots of pictures and just take time to enjoy them, they grow FAST.
