Carmella lost her voice a couple years ago. I put five drops of colloidal silver in a gallon of water overnight, next day she started getting her voice back, did it one more night and she was good to go. Maybe it was coincidence, but I wanted to share. Gotta be super careful with colloidal silver from what I read - but it is antimicrobial.

But I did this after a couple of weeks, a trip to the vet, and trying ACV in the water. It was a last ditch effort. I did not go for the silver as the first treatment.

Julie, you need your own pekin quackers... Although to be honest I'm slightly worried their cuteness might be the death of you.

No kidding!! It would kill me having some chunk pekins. I have actually been around one in my life before. I babysat her and her WH pal and couldn't keep my hands off her chunk bod. Nor the WH's either. That was awhile ago. I need a dose.

I posted this the other day on the illness forum.
I babied her for a day and gave her food and electrolytes and she was up moving around and being herself again.

Now, 48 hours later, she has the same symptoms that you will read below. Sorry, I copied and pasted. I made sure she hadn't gotten into anything, cleaned the enclosure and feeding vessels, everything. No vet around here sees birds.... I'm not sure what to do for her.


Original posting --Looking for some advice for my duck.
She hatched in August of last year and has been laying for the last month or two.

I went out to feed the flock this morning and 4 out of 5 ducks were up moving around and happy to see me, but this girl was laying flat on the ground with her legs straight back, getting covered by snow.
I wrapped her in a towel and brought her inside. I would take her to a vet, but we had a blizzard (Colorado!) and are unable to take her anywhere.

I gave her a warm bath. She floated mostly normally, tilting a little to the right.
She drank lots of water, but still hasn't gone poop and it's been several hours, which to me is unheard of for a duck.
I palated her for an egg and felt nothing.
She is able to move her head and drink the water I put in front of her, but she won't eat, even the peas and that's her favorite. She tried to move once when the cat came to sniff her, but it was a couple of inches and she dragged herself by her wings.

Unfortuntely I don't have an Epsom salt, I will try to make it to a store in the morning weather permitting.

I had some 'save a chick' electrolyte mix that I use for my hatches that she is getting now.

What else can I do for her?!

I am no expert but either she has an infection or maybe a cracked egg. I'd call a vet and ask them what they think even is they don't take or do birds just to maybe be referred to a vet that does. I hope she gets better.

I forget details about flocks, please bear with me. Is there a drake? It sounds like a pinched nerve, and that can be from a number of things but drakes are frequently the cause.

I might just give her bath time (supervised) as much as I could manage, and if she can tolerate it, I would hold her in my lap, very lightly stroke her back and chat with her, sing her a lullaby, try to help her relax and also stimulate the circulation in her back.

If you can think of an anti inflammatory safe for ducks that you might have, I would look into that.

If it's an infection . . . do you have any antibiotics? Oregano tea has anti microbial properties and it might be worth a try (cooled, of course).

I have 4 females and get 4 eggs in the morning.
Info have a drake, and he can be a little rough, but she is not his favorite, he prefers my white layer girls.

Sea salt can be used as a laxative.
Do u have any probiotics?
