The Duck Thread

Awhile back there was an article on BYC about table top/table high brooders. Instead of coming in from above to clean, add feed and water basically you come in from the side and at the same height as the chicks. I can't find the article now for the life of me but it talked about how much calmer the chicks were because they were not being approached from above. It made so much sense I thought I'd try it. IT WORKS, lol. My new lings are so calm and they don't scramble when I open the side. If I try to reach over they run. YAY for whoever wrote the article

Well dang that makes a lot of sense! Now I'm rethinking my whole setup!

Hey guys I starred a thread for Harmony my (rare) Chocolate Orpington. If you'd like to watch her grow up with me and see what she ends up looking like feel free to subscribe and comment! Her backround and information is on the thread called "Rare! Chocolate Orpington Duck" she is the only duck (I know of) that has that coloring,

I agree. My brooder for chicks is 4 feet off the ground over my ducks laying area. Chicks come running to great me. But I tried it with the ducks. Worked well with only a few but you put 8-10 and they go crazy again.

My attempt at binding for angel wing. It isn't pretty, but hopefully it works.

Wasn't as easy as the description on BYC. For the life of me I can't figure the pictures out, how do you start the wrap. Anyway...hopefully it will stay on AND I have her wing positioned properly. She was TERRIBLE!! The way she was screaming, you would have thought I was cutting off her head!!! She even tried to bite my husband. She was PI---D, with a capital "P"!! LOL I put a friend in the pen with her but the rest of "the mob" (other 3 ducklings) are NOT happy as well.

This is going to be a noisy house for the next couple of days! LOL We'll see in 7 days how we are doing. Keep you posted.
Anyone have any idea why the pictures aren't there? They were last night. Am I on someone's baddie list???!!

Wow that's a great idea! I'll have to try that next time I set up a new brooder.

I have 6 sweedish ducks and I'm not sure how many males and females they are 6 weeks old and some are quacking so i should know soon. My question is 3 of them are larger so I have a feeling I might end up with more then one male if this happens will I need to get more females. There new feathers are a green tint is that an indication of a male or is that something all sweedish ducks have.
