The Duck Thread

@white socks here we are!!!
@jtn42248, @Miss Lydia, @Debs Flock, @pattyhen, @WVduckchick....and any other lamps... Can you give a hand to white socks. Friend from elsewhere, deb, you helped on FB. Looking for help with niacin. Crippled duck with walking issues. Oh and can someone give a link on the page where it helps a new person a walk through of BYC???? Please??

I have a crippled duck and need some help figuring out what I can do to help him. I'm giving him brewer's yeast and niacin but no luck with it.. Can someone help me please and thank you
First question would be hold old is the duck? I ask because bone and nerve problems manifest over a period of time. If the ducks problems are related to niacin deficiency and it has not been helping it could be that the nerve issues (if that is what is happening) are too far advanced for the niacin to help.

Next I would ask what do you mean by "crippled". Is he totally unable to move using his legs? Is he unable to stand? Does he lay and use his wings to move about? These symptoms are indicative of so many things (stress, nutrition issues, infections, "hardware" disease, etc.) that it might be best to try to consult with a vet to be sure you don't aggravate the issue with the wrong treatment.

I wish I could be of more help but it is very difficult to diagnose online without actually being able to see the sick bird. Hopefully someone with experience with similar symptoms will be able to offer more assistance.

Best of luck to you.

These were given to my kids. Any idea on the breed or sex? Around 2.5 months old

Just a guess based on the pictures alone. The mostly black is a drake (note the green/grey bill and a slight upcurve of the tail feathers). The lighter one probably is a female. Have you noticed their sounds yet. A mature male will have a raspy softer quack that sounds like they have a soar throat while the female will typically have an actual quack like the Aflac duck.

Yellow has a loud quack. Black hasn't let us hear a peep from him. I guessed and guessed the same as you on sexing. Their names are Jack and Diane. I was trying to figure out the breed but couldn't figure it out they also kind of look like what I seen to be called an AppleYard but I wasn't sure. The black one has a green tint all over him it started with the head but everywhere there's black there's a green tint now he also has the blue on his wings like the yellow one does it's just not quite as noticeable.

I need help with ANGEL WING!!!!!! One of my Rouen Drakes has it, I noticed it yesterday, he is a free range duck in summer, I'll try catching him tomorrow, but I don't know what to do... If I don't catch him will it go away (we have a 60acre pond so....) when I catch him, what do I do to fix it? He seems ok, but I want to fix it, he can still fly fine

It is about 5 week and I noticed it at about 2 weeks old but have been doing everything to help it and I have called my vet but they say it's to young to do anything.. No it's not completely crippled but it walks on its elbows but gets around that way..

it will not go away and the only way to fix it is to tape it though i'm not sure how you should tape it and if its an adult duck it will mostlikely be permanent
