The Duck Thread

Guys I can't get live ducks. 3 dead yolk. How do I fix the dog house and older ducks. I sprayed the coop down washed everything out there applied bug spray around where I could away from my eggs ditmacious earth. These ants drive me crazy. How can I help them.

does any body have canadian geese? i recently received some eggs from a friend and i put them under my broody duck who happily excepted them but the duck eggs are only a week or two in and the goose eggs are on their last day or two in the egg, will this cause problems for the ducks? i was wondering if the geese hatch the ducks might not set on their eggs any more? any input is welcomed, thanks guys.

I have two half Canada goose geese. Yes, the ducks would stop sitting on their eggs to care for the ducklings. Either you will have to pull the goslings as soon as they hatch and brood them yourself or pull the duck eggs and finish incubating them yourself.

How do I add a picture to my profile

Do you mean add an avatar? To do that go to your profile, and then under the picture that is currently your avatar on the left hand side (your current avatar is the default one, a grey drawing of a hen) click the button that says "Replace Avatar".

So one of my missing geese came back. Just one. No signs of the other. But this one is back and is settled in. I'm hoping this doesn't mean that the other one died but I don't know why else they would split up :(

In happier news, incubation is going well. Lockdown for my KC eggs is Tuesday!

Sorry you still have one missing. Is that one that's back missing the other one?

Best of luck for a good hatch. You know we'll be waiting for pics of the babies.

They look great!

Thank you. I can't say for sure. Of the 3 Pekins one has had a chronic issue with laying soft eggs. Sad to say but I hope it was her.

The latest babies!!! The one with yellow on its bill is a gray call I think. The one w 2 eye stripes may be a wood duck or a Laysan duck. I'm not sure yet. The eggs was laid in a ground nest, so I didn't think any were woodies, but they're the only ones I know that have 2 eye stripes. The black one is a black runner or runner x Cayuga.
Precious!

I hope nothing comes up. Other than maybe a little sore I think he's doing ok this morning. They are still in the pen I let them out about 9:30 am everyday so they still have a bit more relaxing time. I took a peek in and he fully stretched his wings so I'm going with those are fine. He's a little wobbly on his legs so maybe sore there. We will have to wait and see. Keeping my fingers crossed though.

Make sure he's eating, drinking and preening.

Just the one, so far. My fingers are crossed for the other.

I am hoping to make my ducklings some duck grower this weekend. As I have failed to find meat and bone meal this is what I will be using
Cracked yellow corn
Soybean meal
Alfalfa pellets
Oyster shells
Powdered skim milk
Brewers yeast

What else should I add!? Should I just get a vitamin supplement and call it a day? I could not get my hands on dicalcium phosphate either.. :( found some on Amazon but they wouldn't ship it to Alberta. Please help.
