Sooo CUTE
Very cute! Thanks! I thought about reinforcing thr chain link somehow, but the pen is so huge, and we are actually moving in a month, so we are taking things down, not up. I dont know how we are going to deal with her having brand new babies when we are trying to move, but we will figure out something. I threw some mealworms back there and she ate them. The other mallard girl I have is also sitting on that nest occasionally, it's so weird lol. I'm so excited though!
Isn't she cute though! I love how poofy she looks.
Hi all. I have 3 muscovies arriving tomorrow. They are only 1 day old. I have never had any birds. I have 2 pigs and had goats. Just looking for any words of wisdom. I am assuming to keep them inside for a few weeks. I live on Long Island in New York.
YAY! Congrats on your new arrivals. I can't tell for sure if you don't already have something down, but you need to make sure the tub is covered so they don't slip around when walking.
My ducks arrived safely and adorable. I am brooding them in the bathtub since it's easy to clean and they have plenty of room. I also pinioned them myself today so they won't fly. I am attaching a picture of their home. If anyone has any thoughts, I am all for hearing them.![]()

You will notice slipping when they become more active. They definitely need traction everywhere or they can develop splayed legs or other leg problems. Make sure they are drinking water. You might have to dip their beaks in it a few times before they get the idea. I wouldn't worry too much about the swimming dish right now... they will figure it out, trust meThat red thing is a towel. Which is below the heat lamp. That gives them some traction in that area. So far I haven't seen too much slipping and sliding. They don't seem to want to play in the shallow swimming dish I put down. I will leave it there I guess, in case they get the urge?

You're welcome. I don't know a thing about pinioning but if they are eating and drinking and not bleeding I think all should be wellI will cover the whole tub with the towel. They are definitely drinking, they like to play in their drinking water. I put some fresh grass in the water and they seem to really like that. They are 3 days old now. I just hope the home pinioning didn't hurt them. Thank you, Ren.
