The Duck Thread

My Mom got baytril this morning! The vet said that we should put it down his mouth or in his water. The dosing is pretty much what Kathy said: 0.3 ml twice a day for 5 to 7 days.

You've seen the instructions on avoiding getting anything down the windpipe, right? I just want to write this here for people reading this thread who may not know that when squirting things in the duck's mouth, one needs to avoid the airway.

For other people reading this please understand that there are three variables used in calculating this Baytril (enrofloxacin) dose.
  1. Number of mg per kg
  2. Weight of bird
  3. Number of mg per ml

Number 1 - I chose 10 mg per kg twice a day because that seems to be one that many vets pick.
Number 2 - @Spyderk117 weighed their duck at ~651 grams (0.651 kg).
Number 3 - This bottle of Baytril has 22.7 mg per one ml. Keep in mind that the Baytril that we can get at pigeon supply websites is 100 mg.

One *must* know all three before they can give a safe and effective dose, then they must do a little math.
