Let's not get started arguing over whether or not there is a God. That is a sure-fire way to get this thread locked fast. The Duggars believe there is, so that's that. If you don't, more power to you, that doesn't give you the right to criticize someone else's beliefs.

That being said, if you had read the posted link, you would see that it says they can do nothing to interfere with conception. So if they are (obviously) able to conceive, they have no need to adopt. Their beliefs prevent them from interfering in having children of their own. I'm sure if it were the case that they were physically unable to have children, they would have adopted instead.

Now she won't just be Sizzlean anymore. I'm going to call her Mrs. Duggar.

Oh and she does adopt. She has raised many abandoned chicks.

As for the Duggar's I usually avoid any heated debates but I guess if she can have that many and not be taken away by the men with the little white jackets more power to her. Myself I would been nuts a long time ago with that many kids. Kids in this world have it really bad and I guess they are cared for. Most kids would just like to have someone who cares about them and I think the Duggars are a loving family

I still think she's crazy.

I agree.

I also just plain don't like the thought of someone having that many kids...how can you be a good parent? Your older kids shouldn't take such a big part in raising the younger ones, that's your responsibility. There's no way they can spend enough one-on-one time with each child.

Just my opinion. Could be wrong.

I think one of my gripes with this lifestyle is that the older children have no choice but to co-parent the younger ones. I understand that it is training for when they have children of their own; but they become defacto parents of their siblings at a very young age. Each of the older children is expected to take responsiblity for one of the younger. This is the only way such a large family can function at all. I don't think it is right for these children to have to become parent surrogates because their parents won't place any limits on their fertility.

I also find some of the quiverful beliefs, especially the "white godly people" should out breed other people, slightly reprehensible.

This protection of older children from taking on some responsibility for younger ones is so very modern. This is not the way families have functioned for centuries, where each member is responsible for the others. No one is exempt or protected from being responsible for the welfare of the others. It is not a bad thing for older kids to mentor younger ones, to have chores, to contribute to the running of the family. This is how one ends up with generous, responsible adults. Kids are ego-centric to begin with (me, me) and it is a good idea to urge them to become more outwardly focused. Does that mean make them do ALL the work while parents eat bon-bons? NO. It means give them the opportunity to mentor, learn, do, and contribute. This is the common sense approach of generations, not the over-coddling of the last 40 years.

I really do not see how this is a system that should be bashed. It produced good people and strong families for many generations, including those of my grandparents.

LOLOLOL

There were only 3 of us and I had to "coparent" my sister and brother. It's how you learn to PARENT

Ok so does anyone know the total number of soldiers killed in Iraq? I think the last I heard we were at 3,000+ correct???

Yea, those 19 kids the Duggars have (or are having) hasn't made a dent in the number of soldiers we've lost.

At least she's having LEGAL citizens...they didn't jump the borders or come here illegally, right? They are American citizens.

If you want to get upset about someone having a multitude of babies, get upset over the illegals, who are giving birth HERE making their newborns LEGAL citizens of our country....who could grow up and become your future president.

I think there's enough problems in this country to worry about other than a woman having her 19th baby, especially when they are completely paying their own way and not on assistance.
