all these people depending on faith need to read a little more,, we are told to have faith,, BUT also told to protect our families and flock. we have brains for a reason,, and not to be used used just to say we have a babysitter. if you dont do ALL thats in your power (help yourselves) then he will just let you wither away. he will help you, as long as your trying to help yourselves,, he's not gonna take care of you if you jus sit on ya @ and do nothing. now this isnt a thread bout "faith",, its a thread bout what to do to protect your "flock" against evil little thieves.

When did a human life become worth less than a couple of chickens?

I hate these doomsday threads, they are so silly. Chances are if the economy becomes that bad, your chickens will be the least of your worries.
I'd focus on things more important, like your kids disappearing for a ransom.

I love my chickens but realize that they, like many other possessions, are very replaceable. Faith in humanity is not. When you lose that, is there really much else left?

fright is a natural instinct that tells you to be worried and to do something about it. just like being scared to drink and drive,, or being scared of a grizzly bear. your SUPPOSE to be frightened of things,, it makes you get up and do something about the situation that is frightening you. we were given these "emotions" for a reason,, self preservation. and people stealing you food, income, and flock plays into the "preservation" instinct

the1much ~ I agree with you in the respect that we have to eat. I can food, and prepare freezer meat each year. I do this regardless of the state of the country. I am prepared. I am not fearful. If the time comes that we should need to defend ourselves we will, but I will not sit and worry about it, and live in fear. Number one, I don't believe that it's going to get to the point that we are all running around with out laws like many posts on this thread have indicated. I do believe that times may be tough for a while, but we will get through it.

Isn't there a saying "The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself"?

and im not saying "live in fear", but the crime rate is going up,, and i dont think they'll be lines to steal our chickens,, but i have a REAL bad thing bout thieves,, i give my birds away to some people that you know just REALLY cant afford them, ( eating sized birds) and would give almost ANYONE something i had that they needed, but will shoot anyone trying to steal from me

and theres a difference in fearing what will happen,and living in fear.


now a quick note to others reading,,,, DID YA SEE HOW WE HAD A CONVERSATION like adults, not an argument,,, its alright for ALL of us to have opinions, and even better when we have different ones,, this is how we all learn, and how to have apathy for each other.
