The Economy and Your Chickens

Once mine are outside I plan on locking up the coop as tight as possible. Of course I have heard it said locks only keep out honest people.

well , We been hit 3 times . NOW we have electric fences around our yard fence , around whole perimeter of pens and coops , everything is padlocked and ALSO WE HAVE A COURT DATE . Tired of the B/S .


Never imagined chickens were so valuable to out siders .

We've always had a baby monitor in the coop so we could hear someone open the doors, which have several barrel bolts each, in different directions.

I thought of the baby monitor thing , BUT after having baby monitores on both my parets with Alziemiers I REFUSE to use them again unless its for a baby . Thats why the electric fences and pad locks .... I heard a person scream ONCE since the electric fences have been installed . LIKE, OH WELL

Sorry about your parents, Liz. My mother had Alzheimer's, too. It's a hard thing to deal with.

Um, an electric fence isn't going to keep people out (unless it is like a prison-grade "fry you to a smokin' crisp" type thing, which is massively too dangerous to have around and illegal to boot, not to mention its effect on your electric bill).

Electric fences only keep out animals that don't know how they work or how to defeat them. Which, mostly, people do (or can easily find out).

YES , Maybe where you live , In this city its the cops that told us what to install and to make sure the fences , gates , etc . are posted and YES , they will stay out .

NOBODY can enter the back yard without getting shocked and Trust me , its legal and binding . In the UNITED STATES WE have totally different laws then you do . PRIVATE PROPERTY AS LONG AS IT IS POSTED ( KEEP OUT ) YOU TRASPASS , YOU GO TO JAIL . Certain states ( Texas for one ) you do have the right to shoot anyone on your property that is caught traspassing , breaking and entering or stealing .

Hey people! this is really not the time to be fearful. Stand up be strong. teach your children how to survive. Trust God. Have faith in your country. I dont see our country turning to mass caos anytime soon, even though it could happen. We are in deep doo doo. But what does that really mean? I believe not as many big macs. No more buying our kids excessive amount of toys and no more buying ourselves our expensive adult toys. WE buy what we need and thats it. We have been spoiled over the last 50 years. People in other countries that are very very poor live good lives and enjoy life. Houses will be built smaller. no more giant houses. We dont all need a 2000 sq ft house. You catch my drift. No more excessive spending. thats bothering our country. Maybe this is a blessing thats masked. Maybe we will not have a huge amount of obiese kids and adults. people will work hard again. I think hard times make us better

Yes, electric fence is legal.

However, the kind of electric fence that is legal is pretty easily defeated by anyone who wants to get in. There are a number of ways to do it, basically involving insulation or grounding out the fence or a combination of both.

Electric fence will keep out casual wanderers, which is probably worth *something*, but that's all. Anyone who wants in, is gettin' in, really truly.

... Liz, we've been through this before, I am *American*, ok? I was born in Pennsylvania, lived in PA, DE, NC, OH, NJ and NC and travelled a fair bit elsewhere, I know American laws just as well as you do. Also they are not, in this respect, any much different than Canadian laws anyhow, except for some of the firearms issues)
