The EE braggers thread!!!

I just love my EE's, you never know what color you are going to get. Most other breeds you know what is comeing but when you have a mixed baby you never know what they will look like. They are the best. Nothing beats a mutt baby!

AND they are stronger and healthier! I love that red/black one. All the ones I have ever had in that coloration turned out to be roosters. Most of my hens look like the last one.. but they are good birds and good layers! It looks like you have a really neat bunch of chicks there!

Hey all! I'm selling some of my girls' eggs to a lady who is interested in hatching some birds who will lay a variety of egg colors, and am wondering if it's possible to predict the egg color of the babies. My hens lay everything from white to blue, olive to dark brown.... but I'm worried that my rooster's genetics will produce only green-egg-laying babies. I hatched three of his offspring last year, and both pullets lay green eggs (even though their mothers laid brown). But by the look of his son's comb, the green/blue egg gene may not be passed on 100%.

My rooster is a non-standard ameraucana cross, most likely ameraucana/marans. Will his daughters all lay green eggs?

Thanks for your help with this!

Love looking at all of the beautiful EE's!!! Wanted to add my two the the thread....
Sassy at a few days old. Got her name b/c of her spunk as a chick:

She is my "flyer" and leaves her sisters daily to explore on her own.

Lacy was originally called "Specks" but my son renamed her when she feathered out:

She is so sweet, and I love her coloring.

Wow! I love her coloring, too! How fun! I see grass in your yard...how do you keep your chickens from eating it all? hahahha

I believe so, yes.

This is my understanding of the egg colors. Since he carries the blue egg gene with the brown modifier.. all of his daughters will have olive green eggs. His sons might (?) loose the blue egg gene.. if there is Marans in the mix. If you want that possibility I would start using the son to some brown/white egg layers - then you would get brown layers.

I would never have expected your "Lacy" to turn out the color she did. What a beautiful bird!
