The EE braggers thread!!!

This is the Araucana that I purchased yesterday. Can anyone tell me about the "fuzzy feet?" That became the name my son gave her (I hope).

The color pattern and fuzzy feet make me think dark brahma. If no beard and pea comb.

I think she's a girl, it's the penciled feathers that make it look like she has saddle feathers. She's pretty!

Yes, the penciled feathers, are what got me... from the original photos, kinda blurry, it totally made it look saddle-y. Even without the red, on the shoulders I was like... oooh, I dunno...

But the newer photos totally clear it up. She's very pretty.

Interesting! I will have to check that breed out-I don't know anything about it. They were probably hatched over the weekend, so it's kind of hard for me to tell, at this point. The comb size looks very similar to the others and the others don't have much of a beard, either, but you can tell they are going to. This one also seems to have more of a "tail" than the others. Thanks for the info!

Is it just me or does anyone else think that purebred silver amerucana hens neck feather resemble the neck feather of those a EE hen?

Her is a picture of one of my EEs for reference. See her neck, upper back and chest feathers.

Yes EE often are silver and often have the columbian gene. That can change the silver to silver penciled.

I have a one year old EE hen that I found crowing this morning. I don't believe she is a he. I mean it's been a year. Can a hen crow like a rooster? There is no big tail, although it's always plucked out so it's hard to tell. I have a hen apron on her because it appears our rooster has treaded on her. She is also very petite for an EE and does not strut around like a normal rooster would walk. But I can't believe I saw her crow this morning. Now I am confused. She does have a different comb compared to the other EE hens, it's flopped over. I can't wait around all day to see if she lays an egg. I am also not able to identify spurs. Even my normal rooster doesn't appear to have spurs. So I'm not sure.

Do you have a picture of her?

Hens can crow. Usually when they are looking for the rest of the flock. And roosters will "mount" other roosters in dominance. The only way you will know for sure is to put food coloring in its vent and see if you get any eggs with food coloring on it...

Oh, you can also look for "rooster feathers".. they are on the neck and by the back of the tail. Roosters have pointy feathers, hens have rounded feathers - and not as many at the base of the tail.
