Pipdzip...love your Betty so much !! What is her cross?A Beauty!
Im partial to light color birds anyway.
Betty is an 'Americana' (EE , obviously) from a very local hatchery, so I don't know what her cross is. Everyone loves her.

Now on Breeding Amerauncas to other birds to get EEs maybe a dumb question but if my Lav Am roo is jumping on all my yard hens will some of the the pullets they create lay blue eggs or does it have the be the hen that's a blue egg layer not from the roo.?
(Maybe i could find this if I went back some posts but submiting this is easier)

She reminds me of the childrens books w/ the split pages the top of the page all different peoples tops, and the bottom of the page different peoples bottoms so you can flip the pages and mix and match different tops and bottoms, looks like someone flipped the page and her top (head) doesn't match her bottom. lolMY little EE hen will do ANYTHING to stay away from us "bad" Humans LOL

Thank you I forgot with tan eggs it will be green!! .I have all tan egg layers except my amercuanas so I guess ill get all green eggs!!.Not a dumb question at all.
There are only 2 "colors" of egg shells, White and Blue. The blue egg gene is dominant.
Brown eggs are a coating on the white shell, green or olive eggs are a coating on the blue shell.
That's very basic, of course there can be other factors...
So generally speaking when you cross a Blue egg laying roo on any hen, her genetics play in as well.
If she lays white, her daughters will lay blue.
If she lays tan/brown/chocolate, her daughters will lay green to olive.
ALl of this assume that your Ameraucana Roo is Homozygous for Blue...which he should be, but again in nature...things happen, lol!

I agree like someone switched head and bodys...really different and gene wise seems like it really would be almost impossible ! No black or white on her body And no tan on her neck and head!!WOWShe reminds me of the childrens books w/ the split pages the top of the page all different peoples tops, and the bottom of the page different peoples bottoms so you can flip the pages and mix and match different tops and bottoms, looks like someone flipped the page and her top (head) doesn't match her bottom. l
He is gorgeous!
