The EE braggers thread!!!

Can someone please give their opinion as to whether this is a pullet or a cockarel. Approximately 2 1/2 weeks.... it tends to stand a little more upright like my buff orp male did at this age but I don't know since this is my first EE - Thanks!!!!! Some of the pics aren't the best quality.

Don't hit me if I'm wrong but I think that is a pullet. I also, agree that it is a little early rto really tell yet.

I was also thinking pullet though it is way to early to tell. Definitely post pics again when it is around 4-6weeks old.

Thanks everyone - i'll post pics as they progress.... what makes me a little nervous is that this one stands up a little taller and that is how my last "pullet" was that ended up being a rooster... that was a buff orp though so i'm not sure if I am looking for the same signs.

Hiyas. My girls are finally starting to look like chickens so I am making the rounds to the breed threads. One of my girls in an EE so I decided to drop in. Her name is Eleanor. She's been my favorite since day one. We named her for her puffy cheeks as a chick, after the littlest Chipette from the Chipmunks. All of my girls are getting along really well, no one really seems to be bossy or mean to the others. None are cuddly or like to be touched either. Eleanor is big momma though. She was the largest until recently when my Welsummer passed her. It seems she's the one everyone like to snuggle with or looks to for comfort. You rarely find her alone. I think she keeps the group together.

Eleanor at a couple weeks

Around 1 month, The littlest one Onyxia (BSL) looking for protection from Ely when an airplane flew over.

Ely with Tea (Welsummer) around 2 months.

And the most recent Ely and Onyxia taken today at about 10 weeks.

Can EE's go broody? I have one that I caught in a nesting box with eggs last night. I thought something was wrong with her because she's usually stand offish, but I could let her and she started "yelling" at me. I'm surprised I'm getting any eggs at all. I've got 5 broody Cochins, 1 broody seabright, and 1 broody austrilorp.

EE's can go broody. In my case out of the 15 EE/OE I have only had 1 OE go broody this year, and she is a mean mama. No one is allowed around her chicks. She was even fighting with my roo over them. My BCM's and 1 BO are broody almost all summer. Last year my BO grew out 3 batches. But we had a late start this year. The groundhog was wrong! and it has been a cool wet summer here. The OE that went broody is a Splash maran X double blue gene EE. so maybe she got the maran broody gene LOL

Thanks! Not sure what she's a mix of. She's a hatchery "Auracana". But we love her and she lays very pretty blueish-green eggs.

I had one EE go broody this year - surprised the heck out of me. I have had EEs for.. um.. lotsa years (over 20??!!!!) and I have NEVER had a broody EE until this year. I think with all the other broodies I now have maybe she decided to join them? Funny thing is, she is the skinniest, spaziest of my EEs - most leghorn looking - and SHE is the one that decided to go broody! She is also 7 years old, and has never been broody before!
