The EE braggers thread!!!

Can someone please give their opinion as to whether this is a pullet or a cockarel. Approximately 2 1/2 weeks.... it tends to stand a little more upright like my buff orp male did at this age but I don't know since this is my first EE - Thanks!!!!! Some of the pics aren't the best quality.

So cute whatever it is...It's definitely a pullet or a rooster.."JK"...

...can't wait to see what it turns out to be...

I had my smallest spaz EE go broody last year at a year old. This year one of the biggest, calmest EEs went broody at 2 years old. If this one ever goes broody again, I'll go out of my way to give her eggs. She protects the chicks from any aggressive bird but brings them up to me to beg for treats. It's funny to see her with her trail of 10 silkie chicks trailing behind her. The youngest are 6 weeks now.

What is even funnier about your statement.. is an EE brooding Silkies! I was planning on doing it the other way around, because I didn't think my EEs would ever go broody.

Well I tried a hatch under a first time silkie broody but something went wrong and only had one hatch (on day 28!) and the mama didn't really want it. I'm supposed to get a trio to someone we know so when I had EEs go broody right before the first egg hatched, I put more silkie under broody. After these eggs hatched and the chicks were a couple days old, I put the 3 week old silkie next to her and she made some odd sounds at the chick while it cheeped at her and that was that. She's cared for that one as part of the brood since. After that show, I'll give her eggs any time she goes broody.

Yes, it sounds like you have an excellent momma there. Did the odd sounds sound like she was saying "cluck, cluck cluck"? That is chicken for "come here chickie, I am a mommy"... or "Go away rooster, I am a mommy"

I've never heard that particular sound before from any of my broodies. It was just odd and she hasn't made it since. My guess was she was telling "What's one more? Welcome to the family".

I'm so glad my EE hasn't lost her mind then. I was a little worried something might have been wrong with her. Although she sits a little sideways in the nesting box.

This is Marco
oooo hes gorgeous! if i didnt already have 5 roosters, id probably steal him up! my fiance wouldnt be very happy with me though :( the 2 easter egger roosters that im keeping (Dom and Afro Chicken) are coming into their hackle/saddle feathers. Afro Chicken is getting burnt orange feathers in, and Dom is getting sort of buff laced black feathers. they are going to be pretty birds :D
