No they are chicks and the feed store said they would me female. Yea I will post a pic ASAP
And what's wrong with a rooster? I know they can be mean sometimes and cranky but I don't think we give roosters that much credit. I mean if we didn't have roos then we wouldn't have anymore chickens.
Insane chickens are generally more alert. up here calm chickens that free range generally become someones meal. crazy chickens last much longerTheir temperament seems to depend on their background. The Easter-eggers I got at the feed store are insane like that, but the ones I got from a small, local hatchery are sweet, calm, and friendly.
Betty's my lap EE and is perfectly fine with being picked up and toted around, even by my 4 year old niece (no matter how skeptical she looks in this picture).![]()

for best chance at blue , olive ,green eggs keep the hens with pea combs you hatch. Breed the roosters with pea combs too.Not a dumb question at all.
There are only 2 "colors" of egg shells, White and Blue. The blue egg gene is dominant.
Brown eggs are a coating on the white shell, green or olive eggs are a coating on the blue shell.
That's very basic, of course there can be other factors...
So generally speaking when you cross a Blue egg laying roo on any hen, her genetics play in as well.
If she lays white, her daughters will lay blue.
If she lays tan/brown/chocolate, her daughters will lay green to olive.
ALl of this assume that your Ameraucana Roo is Homozygous for Blue...which he should be, but again in nature...things happen, lol!
wow would love to se more pictures of her
really nice lookoooo hes gorgeous! if i didnt already have 5 roosters, id probably steal him up! my fiance wouldnt be very happy with me though![]()
the 2 easter egger roosters that im keeping (Dom and Afro Chicken) are coming into their hackle/saddle feathers. Afro Chicken is getting burnt orange feathers in, and Dom is getting sort of buff laced black feathers. they are going to be pretty birds![]()

my condolences. My EE rooster passed away last night/early morning. I'm guessing the heat was just too much for him. He given many people beautiful babies!
does Broody mean they stop laying eggs or just want to sit on other hens eggs? The first year I raised EEs, I had a 11 month old EE go broody. But she quickly decided she wasnt comitted.
So sad. Sorry for your lossMy EE rooster passed away last night/early morning. I'm guessing the heat was just too much for him. He given many people beautiful babies!

Both. They lay a few eggs and stop laying and sit on them for 21 days. And they sometimes will go so far as to go to other nests and steal the eggs and put them in their nests (if its not too far away). Yes, hens CAN carry eggs!
