The EE braggers thread!!!

Since my Roo Blackbeard is all about "experimenting" on his own. Look what popped out this summer..

LITTLE TWO TONE MOON FACES! Circle faces of one color (not just the muff and beard) and neck/body a different color.

The first pic is my roo last year, and the last pic is my roo now after his molt. He has a pure black muff and beard outlined with the lighter mane color. Pictures In between his two are some of his offspring. A couple are not as defined or color contrasting as the others but the "circle" is there. The cream and rust one is a cockerel and I will be continuing the "experimentation" with him. The one with him on the roost is brown and his face is all black but the "circle" type thing is there.

Does anyone else have any EE's like this? Is there a name for this? Does anyone know what the genetics are to get this? Or have any good guesses what I need to do to continue it? If so please let me know. Maybe we can work together for more "moonies."

That is striking, I do not know the genetics, but if I had that in my flock I would want to keep it going for sure!

I can give you some insight on your moon face. Wheaten ameraucana is in your mix. Your rooster carries red and silver. The white beard on the cockerel is a wheaten family trait. It will turn black as he matures. Same for the pullets the beard and face should turn more wheat color. Since they are a mix maybe they will be light but not white. This is a wheaten family trait. The pullets have silver in the neck so are silver wheaten (salmon) as the rooster has red shoulders. Pullets can not carry both silver and red only males can carry both. So sorry to say they will loose the white face. The black face should stay. I have seen these before but do not know the genetics behind it. You should be able to breed for that.

those moon faces are pretty cool looking

OK I have Earl and a couple of his sisters or half sisters that are really pretty. Their mothers were EE and their daddy was a Lavender Orpington. So here's Earl and that blur in front of him is one of his sisters.

Here is a better pic of her; I just love that gold and grey coloring. So I bred them together. See that whitish pullet next to her? That's one of her daughters.

Another pic of the daughter; she has a very fine gold partridge pattern on her

and a very light grey necklace. She lays a pretty green egg.

Her sister, that doesn't seem to have any grey on her, just red & white. She lays a very blue egg.

I"ll be experimenting with breeding them back to Earl as well as to a lavender Ameraucauna roo that I am supposed to get later in the year. What I"m really after are some more pretty hens like their mother. Oh another observation; the white pullet has like an Orpington tail and the red pullet has a very upright tail like the EE

That is facinating for me because Blackbeard is the spitting image of my Long John Silver! We both chose pirate name!

So it is the Red gene leaking through that is giving he golden cast to the hackles not a Lemon/Cream gene?
Do you know what causes the speckled chest? I don't think it is mottling because only the tips of the feathers are white not the whole feather.

It is not likely to be cream as it is still rare. Crested cream legbars are the most likely source for cream. The red shoulders are autosomal red. It is not sex linked. If his hackles are yellow then yes he carries gold and silver. The white in the breast is a common problem on some silvers. In ameraucana bantams it is a struggle to get rid of red shoulders and not have the white in the breast.

The pale yellow hackles are hard to see in this picture because my computer screen casts a blue light when I take photos with it. But when you compare it to the white wingtip you can see it isn't the same level of whiteness. I know it is an accomplishment to control the breeding that well to get exactly what you want but that is the fun of Olive Eggers that you can breed what you like, I rather like the white tipped feathers on the chest. Very swashbuckling!

About your moonfaces. The genetics for that are from their Quechua ancestors. Here is one of Poularde's Sweet Potato Quechua with the moonface. There are several types of Quechua. Think of it like a huge extended family. It includes the Ameraucana, the Auracana and the EE's or as Resolution likes to call them North American Improved Quechua.

Good Afternoon everyone!

I just got my very first chicks in last week and am a very proud mama!
I have 3 little EE chicks in my mixed group (also have 2 BOs and a Barred Rock..my shipment of 15 had a extreme run of bad luck..) and they're just so loveable!

2 of my 3: Pearl and Posey.
My 3rd, a little reddish chick, is too busy trying to establish herself as the boss to have her picture taken

I look forward to getting to know more about them, and the breed. It was all the good press on them from this site that made me realize I NEEDED some EEs in my tiny flock.

I wonder if u have 2 boys and a girl. I dont know if the eye shadow tell holds true or not. Eye shadow equals girl none equals boys. Was that a myth or real EE experts
