The EE braggers thread!!!

I have a question for everyone. I have a Salmon Faverolle rooster and I want to breed him with some of my EE hens. Will the chicks have feathered legs and what color egg would the chicks lay when they get older? The EE's that I have now lay a blue egg.

Feather legs, five toes, Green tint eggs. Fav's lay a light brown egg so green tint. This will give you golden cockerels (if your hens are brown that is) pullets will be silver wheaten and wild type. They will not likely be sexable at hatch but could be. The cockerels will have the black breast early on. If sexable at hatch the pullets will be silver chipmunk pattern. The wheaten from Fav"s will most likely make sexing at hatch impossible.

Quick question - Townline only feather sexes; how do they feather sex the "Americanas" (yes I know they are EEs)? Do they work with specific crosses to be able to feather sex at hatch? Thanks!

So what is the best way to know if I have good birds to breed and not "muddy" the breed? Should I take them to a show? Can people tell from a picture? Since I ended up with a cockerel I'm thinking about keeping him and breeding. They are suppose to be from a reputable breeder in WA state. Which traits are a no no?

From the breeders web page...
"our EE's are culls from our Pure Ameraucana. Culls because they do not meet all the requirements to be considered "pure" Ameraucana. Our EE's lay blue to green to pink or light beige eggs. Some have beards, some have muffs, some are tailless, some with slate colored legs, but not all the features in a single bird, to be considered "pure". Our EE's carry blue and laced genetics."

Easter egger are mutts, so dot worry abou muddying up the "breed". As far as which to breed- anyone that doesn't have a deformity will work. You can not show EEs. Breed for traits you want- egg color, leg color, "color", beard/no beard/ comb and so on

Will the chicks I hatch have a beard or not if I breed an EE with a golden laced Wyandotte? Will they have a beard?

Feather sexing requires 2 separate parent lines. One fast feathering one slow feathering. The cross makes feather sexing possible. Most hatcheries vent sex EE's.

Depends on your EE. Two copies of the bearded gene and all the chicks will be bearded carrying 1 copy of the bearded gene. If your EE has only copy then 50% will be bearded and 50% not.

Thanks! I know most do, but when I called Townline about why they are not sexing the Welsummers they told me they do not have a vent sexer there, so hence my question. They all look like standard "wild" markings to me but I am still learning a lot.
