The EE braggers thread!!!

Generally, no they don't lay when they are moulting but some people's birds do. Mine never have.

The CL should only lay blue, right? I can see some variation in the color of my EE's eggs. Of my original 2 one (the one that was eaten by a fox April 2014) layed blue the other green. But sometimes the blue egg was shading kinda toward green and sometimes the green shaded somewhat toward blue and I really had to look at them together to see which was which.

Same with the three 2015 chicks. One is green, one blue, one in between. I can tell the blue from the green but sometimes the "in between" looks blue and sometimes green until I compare it to the other two.

My understanding is that a truly blue egg is a white shell impregnated all the way through with blue and a green egg, having a brown component would be the same but maybe like brown layers, the hen coats some brown "paint" on the outside of the egg as it nears the shipping dock? Thus the green color "changes" depending on how much "paint" was applied. Thinner and more of the blue will show through resulting in a lighter green. Heavier and less of the blue shows through resulting in a darker green.

Thank you, I had to read that twice to sink in

I figured they weren't laying yet but maybe in the future? Lol
I'm in Virginia

They should start laying soon!!! Maybe I'm not sure how to ship animals... Lol we shall see when that time comes![/quote]

I've been wanting to test shipping hatching eggs
If you're interested maybe we can do a trade and test for each other?

Maybe!! Some of my EEs are mixed with rohde island reds so they aren't all just EEs but whe they start laying and everything I will let you know!!

Hi thanks for the responses! They were never refrigerated..only in a cooler downstairs room. I've read that some Legbars lay blue while others more green. I've tried to determine which is the CL and which ones are from the 2 EEs..but I'm not sure. The variation seems to be in all three. I'll have to take note of what the inside of the shells look like next time I crack one. Either way I guess its part of the fun with EEs, its just a pleasant surprise to find bright blue eggs some days

When they start laying the color is light, then gets darker. When they start to stop laying it's like an ink cartridge and gets lighter again. My 2 CL lay a green egg, they are all light now as they just started laying again , my rir are laying light cherry brown eggs thst should get darker as time goes on.

I have a question!! I have quite a few roosters that we have discovered.... But I saw two of them standing tall to one another do I need to start worry about them? They stopped a few seconds later no fighting... I didn't think I'd have to worry until my hens started laying

They will all do that, even the hens to a certain amount. There will be a few tussles, they are just working out their place in the pecking order.

Just to add my confusion to yours ...

I have one June 2012 EE and she has always laid green. Her last egg in the fall was Oct 25th. Today she was in the box and I found Penelope's 52g green egg and a 68g egg (pretty much a normal size for her) that was blue, maybe a slight greenish tint but not quite as much as the EE pullet that lays a "not quite blue" egg. There is no way my pullet that does lay blue popped out a 68g egg, her largest to date is 58g.

Yep they will. Pretty funny to watch female chicks squaring off. Especially if one comes running or flying close to another. The other thinks it is being attacked and takes a decidedly defensive "tall with breast out" stance. Then the one that came in thinks she is being attacked and does the same thing, breast to breast. Then they both say "Oh, hi" and do whatever they were doing/going to do.

Some of my girls do that too...hilarious! How much is 68 g in ounces? The biggest EE egg I've gotten was today and it was 2.2 oz.
