The EE braggers thread!!!

I am guessing the bottom one has a 90% chance of being a rooster.  The other one 80%. Look at the feet and tail on them. They do not say hen to me.

Sorry..

How old are they?

They are 3 weeks. And I think you just broke my heart! What about the tail and feet say rooster? This is my first time with chicks

I wouldn't send them up the river just yet, not at 3 weeks. Lots of pullets that age have scraggly tails.

This is Penelope at 24 days. She lays a lovely green egg every day for 7 to 11 days, then takes a day off then starts up again. Hatched June 8, 2015.

You want to look at the comb (3 rows of "peas" is more likely a roo, 1 row is more likely a pullet) and watch for even patterning of feathers which usually indicate pullet and less even patterning followed by rusty red patches on the wing bows which indicate roos. This second part holds for the NON black and white based EEs.

The combs aren't visible in the pictures mamatoes posted. Look back through the thread and you will see lots of how people post comb pictures. Do the same in a week and people can guess.

I would not send them to Chicky heaven yet either!

The combs would help, and while I agree the tails on 3 week old girls can look tough,,,,Those oak tree sized legs and feet still have me thinking boys.... But hey guessing the sex of chicks is half the fun in my day.

Hey is a couple of my last EE's they are about 5 days old..

I think this one is one I breed a blue egg CLB/EE cross to a pure PC. I like the looks, I am hoping I get green or olive eggs...If it is a girl. I am not sure yet, but worried it could be a he.

These are our day Olds that hatched out yesterday :).

I have a really dumb question but I'm going to ask it anyway . Is the beard n muff thing a sex linked trait? I know nothing about chicken genetics but was curious. We have an EE pair that was sold to us as Ameraucana 2 years ago. Dad doesn't have muffs/beard and mom does. We have 2 babies that are bearded and 2 that are not. Can it go either way? Thanks in advance.

Not sex linked . Since you got both bearded and non bearded your hen has only 1 copy of the bearded gene .
