The EE braggers thread!!!

our orpington french araucana cross hatched 25th july
well its been almost 7 months waiting to see if she will lay a coloured egg, and at this moment we are unsure.
we had an incident yesterday where i collected our 5 eggs 3 tan and 2 blue which we believe are from our adult araucana who only just started laying after stopping in oct-nov when they started molting,
anyway after collecting yesterdays batch, i asked if anyone had collected eggs, and my nephew said he had collected 2, a tan and blue, but after saying i collected 5, he became unsure as we havent collected more than 5 yet, but if he did, our EE is laying pale tan eggs, today has been the 1st time i know for a fact we collected 3 blue eggs, so for sure our summer hatched araucana hen is laying, or maybe its not and ,maybe is the EEs egg, hopefully the next week should tell us for sure. we did get a soft shelled hint of green egg last week be we had assumed its from our brown araucana adult hen

last month hatch doing well, we only got 4 of 6 when mum left the eggs 36hrs after the 1st hatch to sit on the chick feeder keeping the hatched ones warm in the freezing temperatures, of the eggs that died one had started pipping, the other died in the shell fully formed in the cold, she took them into the garden into freezing temps at 5 days old, which was 2 days earlier than our summer hatch, 3 are tailess and one is tailed (the grey one) the black and grey have slate legs but the black has yellow toes, the cream(now brown) have sorta pinkish legs and feet

Hello fellow EE admirers. I've been reading through the thread and enjoying everyone's pictures. Thought I would share a few of my own. I have one 10 month old EE. She showed signs of laying this past fall (sitting in the nest box) but never laid an egg. She has yet to lay her first egg so I don't know what color it will be. I'm hoping for green since I now have light brown and blue. She isn't very friendly with me but is very docile with her flock mates. Her name is Inara (from the show Firefly). Here is my favorite picture of her that was a completely accidental cell phone shot.

And here's one of her fluffy little face.

I recently hatched my first chicken eggs. Had a lot of issues so unfortunately only two hatched. They are a cross between my Blue Ameraucana and my Splash Laced Red Wyandotte so I am calling them EEs. I'll have to get pictures with better lighting. The lighter one has a lovely silver color to it's down.

Wouldn't mind those little faces around here, lol. Congrats on the preciousness! As far as the laying, one of my Ameraucanas didn't start laying until she was over 10 months, so if your girl has had any stress since fall, she could have been delayed by that. Fingers crossed for lots of green eggs for you soon!!

I have two Easter Egger pullets who hatched last September, and one of them, Ethel, laid her first egg today! Ethel has not been my favorite bird in the flock, because she's very flighty and is kind of a boring black and gold color, but I am very pleased with the color of her egg. She's definitely moving up the ranks in my heart now.

Ethel is the darker pullet in this photo. The other bird is Hootie, also an Easter Egger. She's prettier, friendlier, and fluffier in the face. Hopefully she lays eggs as pretty as the one Ethel produced today!

@FreedomFarm13 Thanks. I'll be sure to post progress shots. I think not knowing what they will look like grown is one of the funnest things about EEs. That and the egg color surprise.

@AUChickenGal I think Ethel is very pretty. Nice egg color too.

@Selsley cute picture of your broody and her chicks.

this maybe helpful....
our araucanas stopped laying late october when they went through their molt,
we also have a 8 mth old from last years hatch and an EE the same age from a buff orpington mother
depending on your weather your EE may be waiting for warmer weather. our 2 adult hens started laying about 2 weeks ago, and our youngster last week,
we are getting 3 blue eggs and 3 various tans. i am not sure if the EE is laying but we have had a few soft eggs/membranes and been unable to put a colour to it.
right now, we need to see either 4 blue eggs or 4 brown eggs before we can say what shes laying, the past couple of days have seen a lack of eggs on both sides, but we have seen the EE sitting in the nest too

@summerb123 They do look similar. That's so funny. Love the pattern on Pepper's wings.

@Selsley I know she isn't close to laying yet as her comb is still pale. I'm not too worried about it though. I don't actually need more eggs. I'm just anxious to see what color they will be. For now I'm happy for her to be a free-loading lawn ornament.
