The EE braggers thread!!!

Thank you! It will be interesting to see what color eggs I get from this mix, even more interesting to see what future hatches end up looking like. That one mutt pullet is one of two - they both have the muffs and beard but really strange colors from the cross. The two that look like Golden Laced Wyandottes are clean faced so they could be from a cross with the Black Astralorp rooster I sold. Guess that makes them mutts, rather they are crossed with EE will be decided if either starts laying a blue egg.

My fingers are crossed.

Wildtrapper, I am betting that you have some green egg layers there especially mutt pullet. With the golden comet in the mix they could be a good size. Hooray for you and the beautiful birds !

OMGOsh...my EEs are seriously the cutest ones I have. I just stare at them. How sad! LOL My all white girl has big tufts coming off her face now, more so than the others. I can't wait to see what they look like grown up.

PrinceSandwich- I really like the color on the second cockerel, can't see the body structure on the first one. Tough call as I prefer a large-type roo with an attentive pose to him (alertness) Just like your Mader, fine roo you have. A couple of pages back I posted a pic of my Rooster Mac. He is only 2 yrs. old this spring and one of three surviors out of fifteen of an attack by a pair of 'coons last winter. They are similar looking in statue and coloration.

Vebyrd- Wish I understood the reason or answer to that one myself. I find all the genetics stuff very confusing at the least. Same answer as to why two doses of the blue merle gene in breeding Aus. Shephard's almost guarantees pups in the litter either deaf, blind or at the least excessive white body. Just too potent the combo of the same gene. I have never had that problem with my EE's because they have muffs and beards. Only Araucanas have the tufts. It is hard to breed for and sometimes a failure to keep the tufted chicks that do hatch alive for the first week or so, at least that is my experience. Don't let it scare you tho, it's just a challenge!

All the mutts were hatched in mid September, so they could start anytime in the next couple months. I plan on hatching some more later in the spring or early summer. Some for meat and some for layers. I can sell more eggs than my hens are laying, but after a while a hobby can become work, kinda takes the fun out of it. Matter of fact, I sold a whole bunch of chicks from that hatch (all mutts) and people were happy to get them. We only had to butcher 8-10 for meat.
