The EE braggers thread!!!

Where did you get it? White is an accepted ameracuana color, but EEs also come in white. I have a splash EE and a splash ameraucana - my splash EE has green legs, but some EEs do have gray legs and if mine did there wouldn't be any difference in looks, but I would know that the EE is an easter egger because she came from a hatchery. Hatcheries & feedshops don't sell pure ameraucanas.

If it is an ameraucana, it will breed true (produce white chicks when bred to a white ameraucana), but if it is an EE, it may not. You can also check the bottoms of its feet - there should be no yellow if it's an ameraucana.

i hatched it from my non standard ameraucanas. here is a pic of the parents

Oh my gosh - gorgeous pair! Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous!!!! The young white roo is an EE because, even if he has the exact appearance of a Ameraucana rooster, his offspring will not breed true - they will show different phenotype thanks to their grand parents. Pretty cool that these two threw a pure white chick. Have you hatched out other chicks from the pair? If so, got any pics?

ETA. oops, just saw that all their chicks have been white. So interesting.

every chick from this pair has been white. i sold a bunch of them last spring but still have the white hen in the first pic. i also have 2 chicks in the brooder that are also white.

Cubalaya , they are very nice . As you say , they look to be Ameraucana but in non-standard colors . You might try breeding some of the whites together and see if you get more whites .

you mean brother to sister? i was already thinking of that but suppose they do all come out white? i got the non standard ameraucanas because i liked all the mixed colors that they came in and the blue and green eggs. i got the original 18 hatching eggs from a breeder. all the eggs were sky blue. when they hatched all their legs were slate colored but there was a couple that didn't have muffs or beards. i kept the ones that i liked

A healthier way to go about getting pretty colored offspring with your flock would be to use the "line method" of breeding; that is to use the rooster to cover his daughters who are all white, and then use the sons who are all white to cover their mother, so...... Breed parent to offspring. There is a bit more variety of genetic possibilities this way than with breeding the siblings, but that is done often also. I'm pretty sure that either way you will yet a percentage of all white and a percentage of neat colored babies. I think.

The parents of your white easter egger are also easter eggers and very pretty ones - Non-standard ameraucanas are technically easter eggers. The hatcheries sell their EEs as non-standard (not for show) ameraucanas & araucanas, but they are not true ameraucanas.

A pure ameraucana has to come in one of these colors and must breed true.

I have an easter egger pullet that looks very similarto yours - she's the one behind the buff orpington:

Hey, any genetics wiz out there? I'm having a hard time understanding how this pair is throwing all white offspring only - unless they are the only chicks surviving to hatch. Wouldn't the white have recessive qualities which would mean that they should create a smaller percentage of white offspring than colored offspring? Am I way oversimplifying this? I do know that white behaves uniquely in poultry, but have never found a clear explanation of what that behavior is.

I know that this is a sticky subject but i prefer the term non standard ameraucana to easter egger and not only hatcheries but breed preservationists also use this term. the APA also says that 'cubalayas only recognized colors are black, white, and bb red'. just because i raise red pyle, brown reds, or blue reds, they are just as much cubalaya as my bb reds. should i call them mutts because the APA doesn't recognize the color. you have some nice looking birds.
