The EE braggers thread!!!

Yes. Beards are the puffiness under the beak, the muffs are the puffy cheeks. They're referred to as beard/muffs because of both of the traits, however in reality, one cannot separate those two. You other have both beard/muffs or nothing.

Can you tell by the look of an EE if they are getting ready to lay? She is an Ameraucana/Buff Orpington cross. She is 5-6 months old and should be laying soon. I don't know what to look for other than I read their comb will get redder. Which hers seems to be red (compared to the chicks). When do EE tend to start laying! I am getting impatient lol)

Here is her face

My boy Oreo as seen here:

Has quite a "thing" for red heads. I've been out digging in the ground w/ them eagerly eating up all the bugs me and the majic bug finder (shovel) can dig up. Anyway Oreo comes over faithfully and hunts while I dig and he spends most of his time staring at my hair, and occasionally trying to touch it.

Guess it is a good thing all but two of his ladies are red feathered.

That looks like a single comb, so I'd say wait at LEAST another week. . . . And don't expect too good of green or blue-green eggs. I'd say expect either brown or very golden-brownish green eggs.

She's gorgeous though! The buff passed on very well. Was her EE parent very brown in color?

I have a hen from a BOxEE that is identical in color exept her tail is more buffish. Her comb looks quite similar to. Heterozygous pea combs can be tricky, some look just like tiny singles and others have 3 distinct rows of points.

Thank you, I did not see the parents. He raises Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, RIR, and true Ameraucanas. He crosses sometimes to get EE. They free range, but he has breeder pens etc. He had a great set up and the coops were huge barns and clean and separated. I was so jealous! I should call and ask what the mother was. I am assuming the roo was the Buff since she is buff? Right? Or does that only work with barred sex links"?

We did not plan on getting her. We planned on two BR to replace my sweet Penny. She was so pretty and we wanted some different colors in our flock so she came along too lol.

We have a red or golden sex link chick that is a little darker than her but those are the only buff colored birds we have, so we thought it would look good. She had better muffs and beards but my blue EE thought she was too pretty and competition and took care of few of her feathers! I guess she was the head chicken in her little flock (the BR chicks obey her) and so Pamela had to keep her in check lol.
