The EE braggers thread!!!

No eggs yet, but this is my EE roo that came w/ her. I got all 3 of my EE's the same day, when they were a day old.

pretty, pretty boy! he is #1 in the henhouse.

Thank you, and yes, he is.

I just hope he'll make it easy when I combine my 2 flocks when the other is old enough. I have a beautiful Wyandotte/Marans cockerel that I would like him to share the new coop with, along with the 14 pullets and 3 guineas.

I got a nice selection from Orschlen's too (same hatchery) in Topeka, KS. Good variety. I like picking them out. The odd girl out is the Buff Orp.

Yes, it could. But, hopefully it's a real EE and not an Ameraucana.

Really! I sure hope so. I want only pure EEs.

I bought them at Orscheln's. They get their chicks from Estes Hatchery.

This has been asked before... but can't find it right now... If the roo is EE and the hen is not will the offspring produce green eggs? Or do I need a EE hen for the offspring to produce green eggs?

Makes no difference if a roo or hen. I don't know what color the eggs would be because you mention the other part of the equation. If it is a dark egg layer, like a Marans you would get olive color eggs from the offspring.

I have a Lavender that I got to breed these to when its old enough.

who knows what color chicks they will produce.

this is the way my simple brain understands it. not sure exactly how many genes control the egg color, paired or not, eventually I will get it down to +/-

2 possible colors of chicken eggs- white and blue, eggshell color happens in the eggshell department of the hen. I understand, they got the original blue eggshell color from the Araucanas, they passed it to the mongrel EEs, they standardized the mongrel EEs feather colors/leg colors/combs/muffs by breeding them back to established breeds with established colors to call them Ameraucanas, then bred Ameraucanas to other chickens to call them EEs again...

2 possible tints of chicken eggs- none and brown, eggshell tint happens in the different, paint department of the hen. Quail have wicked cool paint departments, btw...

white egg plus no tint= white egg
white egg plus brown tint= brown egg
blue egg plus no tint = blue egg
blue egg plus brown tint = green egg

if your roo carries the blue eggshell, brown tint gene, he will pass the green egg genes to offspring.
if the hen was white/none in that area, the eggshell may be lighter but still a shade of green, blue eggshell with brown tint over it= green color.
if the hen was blue/none (like a true, true Araucana), you would get a bluer, but still shade of green egg, more blue.

more confused?

I wonder if EE stand for Easter Egger like the Easter Bunny and colored eggs, or Easter Island...?

If it is a breed that ususally lays white eggs, there is a good chance for blue eggs. But just as you can not determine what color/pattern the offsprings will be you can not determine what color the eggs will be. If it is a male it wount lay eggs

but there it may carry the blue/green egg gene to its offsprings. Just as Pollo Loco stated both sexes can carry the blue/green egg gene.
