I have a couple of EE pullets that have not started laying yet. Just curious as to what colors you are getting on the araucana/ameraucana egg color chart. My mother has several EEs and they all lay around the D8 shade. They look blue until you put them next to the chart and then realize they are on the green side of that scale. I have only printed the chart from the internet on the best quality setting so I know it is not the most accurate but still lets me gauge how much green is in there.
Is anyone getting the blue eggs that are in the A's an if so, what do your hens look like? I know some of you are breeding for bluer eggs and I want to hear more about that.
My very 1st hatched chicken, got the eggs from a friend, obviously a barnyard mixed but he hatched from a blue-green egg.
He has olive green legs with feathering.
Very pretty roo.
I have a question on EE genetics? If the roo has a pea comb he carries the blue egg gene ? correct or did I read something wrong?
anyway I'm trying to decide what roosters I'm keeping butchering time is coming closer, and I have 2 beautiful EE roos but 1 has the pea comb and 1 has I would call it a walnut comb, here's a couple pictures for comparison. I want to keep the roo that will help propagate the gene for blue eggs, I only have 1 EE hen for now, but I'm looking for 2 more some time along the way. So would prefer to keep a roo that will help keep the genetics strong for blue eggs. which 1 should I keep?
this is Gray Beard the pea comb
This is Black Beard the walnut combed roo.
Did you all miss my post questions or are you ignoring me? I would really like to know the answer to these questions, if you don't know who can I ask about it? I can't remember where I read the pea comb question? so help would be appreciated
