I knew it! I knew I shouldn't have listened to my hubby!! But is there a reason why the barred one would be squatting like my silkie girls?? This means I have 3 silkie pullets/hens & 2 japanese bantam cross pullets; && 6 roos!!!! AAAAAHHHHHHH

What are the odd that all 4 of our original chicks would be roos?!?!?! Now I gotta rehome them & quit wasting my oyster shell on them. lol... We have 1 white & 1 blue silkie roo's and our white EE roo that we are keeping for breeding... Ugh I guess it's time to make a craigslist add...

good luck rehoming them. I can't get rid of my pure breeds this time of year. Not a peep of interest for the fall and winter season coming.

Butcher them so they are of some good to you after feeding them for so long. On a positive note we will have EE chcks attaching again as. Well as OE and Marans and are close if you want new pullets after Jan 1.

I'm sorry that they turned out to be Roos! I would butcher them and make something of the money you put into them! Unless you want to keep them all winter until they sell in the spring.
i was gunna do that with one of mine but when he hit puberty he started attacking me and almost killed 3 of my girls! He is becoming dinner in the next few day!

I set 9 Marans Eggs and 2 hatched and BOTH are ROOS!!!!

I couldn't see by the pics (blurry) but i know that long pointy saddle feathers are the first clue. i bought 2 white ee's last year thinking i'd gotten hens, boy was i surprised! This year i looked for the pointy feathers at the auction and sure enough they were all boys... Sometimes the leg nubs can mean spurs, but i noiced one of my hens have tiny nubs, so not always accurate. my white boys didn't crow until they were quite huge as I already had an adult roo in there... But the pointy, not short blunt feathers are ALWAYS an indication.

Hope this helps....

Someone suggested a piece of paper under the feathers to really see the shape of the feathers... just thought I would pass that along....

My hubby agrees with you all about eating them. So I guess we are going to move them out of the coop & run with my girls and start fattening them up. lol... I guess I'll have to get at least 4 new babies to rename their given names since they are boys not girls. lol...
