The EE braggers thread!!!

Puffy cheeks and beards are one of the traits that seem to be present at birth or not. Like most feather traits they grow nicer as the birds grow older. "Most of my flowers are like that also." tee hee. So what is an Easter Egger ? Tons has been written. The pea comb is closely related to the gene that results in blue egg shells and for most folks this is one of the traits that is part of the EE along with muffs and beards but not all EEs have all or even some of those traits although I believe that those traits are desirable. In the information pages and on many web sites there are lengthy descriptions of the different qualifications.
WHEN I find information that I want to refer to later until I have learned the stuff, I COPY PASTE to a document and then after I have read it many times well then I know the stuff : this is a copy/paste

They can lay any color eggs since they are a mixed bird, usually. I have some pretty red birds with blue tail feathers, beards and muffs and straight combs, they both lay a brown eggs. Not green, but BROWN.

I have them with an Ameraucana roo now... I will get them laying a green egg or blue if it kills me.... well their babies anyway.

I really want a nice flock of all blue eggs laying EE with beards and muffs and all kinds of colors... That is what make them special to me. All the colors of the babies.

I really am partial to chickens with beards and muffs. I love a mix of colored eggs. And there are a few other traits that I really like and I so wish that some day I can live some where where I can have my chickens on my property. Some day I will be there I guess as far as i know I will. I will !

I am not really interested in having show birds but it does sound like a good idea to begin your journey with the best that you can so I have tried to collect some very nice birds at prices that make sense to me. i just do not understand how folks can spend so much money on "special chickens." but of course that is me speaking with my very own ideas.

I still don't have any baby chick pics to add, but I got this pic yesterday.

Oreo telling that train just who is boss!

Hi Kassaundra,
I agree that your rooster is beautiful. I am keeping a rooster for a friend

I think it is similar in coloration to yours, but my untrained eye may be mistaken.

Is there a particular color name for this pattern? And although I didn't read the thread, all 600 and some pages, I'm thinking that your using this rooster with some hens for hatching? Do you have an idea of what the chicks will be like? If you have any information that you could share I would be really grateful.

Or if anyone with Easter Egger expertise can fill in some blanks...will the slate legs be replicated in his chicks, or is it a toss up. Does the pea comb mean a probability of the blue egg gene in this little rooster?? That is a pea comb right? Thanks lf someone has answers.!

My two EE's, Eliza and Olivia 2/9/12 (2 days old)

Eliza has the beard and muffs

Olivia does not (she looks like a furby here)

Here they are at 6.5 weeks old.. Eliza still has the beard and muffs and Olivia does not

This is Josephine my 19 month old EE

Pretty birds, and nice pictures too. What color are Josephine's eggs? or has she not started laying as of yet?? Whoops, 19 months not 19 weeks, I guess she has probably started...LOL

He is almost Oreo's twin, just a little less red across the wings. I don't know what the color pattern is called, also don't know what happens when you get when using him as a sire, I haven't hatched my eggs yet. I really want to, but only had enough room for a couple more and really wanted to add some NN's. The pea comb does increase the likelihood he carries the blue egg gene, so yes stronger possibility he would pass that to the female offspring. And yes that is a pea comb.
