The EE braggers thread!!!

I am not allowed to have poultry in the town where I live but in fact there is no "law". My neighbor likes to call animals control !!! and they told me that since nothing is written that allows me to keep chickens, then I am not allowed.

Lot of residents have a few chickens in their backyard but they do not have my neighbor.

I have ten LF hens. Ams, EEs, Wellies, Marans, Brabanters and NN and two LF roosters and a small flock of bantams. I like my bantams best because they are so sweet. I am lucky to have made a friend who lives over ten miles away who cares for them for me. Of course I see them as often as I can. And keep the babies in my garage until they can join the others. This whole chicken stuff is way out of control for me.

If it is important to you I bet an attorny could fix that, doesn't seem legal to me.

What animal control told you doesn't sound right at all. If that is what they said they just told you some BS to keep your neighbor from pestering them. If the law doesn't say anything against you having some chickens and you see other people who have a few. I would imagine that it IS fine for you to have a few chickens. As far as your neighbor goes, and depending on how close he actually is surely a few hens wouldn't bother him.... You just need to go make friends with him and give him a few eggs! -an ex-policeman's oppinion ;)

Check the used allowed in your zoning, and also check the section that deals with Rules of Construction. It is usually near the beginning of the zoning code, but is occasionally near the end. It is very common for the Uses of Construction to say that if something is not specifically allowed, it is disallowed. They cannot legally choose to enforce against some violators and ignore others, but it is also common that they work on a complaint basis. You need to find out exactly what the ordinances and zoning do and do not allow, and go from there,

Sleepy is now 6.5 weeks old. I've noticed her wing color looks patchy, the red laced feathers have me paranoid.

Do you still think she's a pullet?

If you need I can post more recent pics of the confirmed roo and pullet from the same brood.

Dingo: Stunning!! I'm seeing pullet, and I sure hope so for you. She's a beauty.

Oh thanks for all the advice. I have learned to deal with the situation and tolerate my chickens being elsewhere. Trouble is that my friend who takes care of them loves birds and both of us keep getting ahead of ourselves and make plans to house more but everything takes additional time that "fowls" Up our plans !

But this system is not unusual with chicken lovers.

So I bought six "Americauna" chicks from the feed store.....How will I know if they are EE's or not? What exactly is the difference? I have one older one- 4 weeks, and she doesn't have any muff yet (in fact, her legs are a little thick and she looks at me cockeyed - I think she's a roo)- some of the week old chicks already do have muffs though. They are all brown with a dark stripe on their back with a lighter stripe on each side of it.

Thanks everyone. I'm probly gonna be paranoid until either she drops and egg or tries to crow. They moved into a bigger brooder today(weather and work is interfering with coop building) with the younger 3 week olds. my 4 definite roos were sparing and occasionally tried to get the girls involved. Sleepy had none of it and had not problem telling them off and giving them "the look." Thats a good sign.

My EE's came from SQ ameraucana eggs. Technically they are miscolored ameraucanas, but ameraucana people are touchy and will no hesitate to tell you your miscolored amercauna is nothing more than an EE. So thats the difference. Hatchery EE's tend to be mixed breeds with a blue egg gene. My 3 of my 4 did not have puffy faces like you usually see in hatchery EE chicks, the one that was puffy was more fluffy in the neck than the face. I believe ameraucana chicks generally aren't puffy faced chicks.

My Ameraucana chicks are VERY puffy faced.... very obvious the Am's from the Sex links or Marans. I have a brooder full of black and white babies so I can see the differences. I hope... cuz lots of them have lost their leg bands.

I don't know if anyone would be able to help but I have a beautiful rooster and 2 Black Australorps and they have mated and I was wondering what the offspring would look like I will post pictures at a later date but please PM me pics of the possibilities. Thanks.
