The EE braggers thread!!!

Beautiful birds !!! They make me want my birds to growup so I can see what colors and such I have! I am hoping to hatch my own EE from my small flock! I noticed tonight that I have some pullets with tufts of feathers coming from their cheeks! Super excited to hopefully match them to the little guy I posted here before!!

I wish I would have taken pictures yesterday of my hatches from this year. For the last 2 years I have been getting solid white EEs out of my flock, but this year I crossed EE roos on some Black Sexlinks and I ended up with 2 black EE hens with beards (one is completely solid black, the other has a tiny bit of golden color low on the breast like a sexlink). I love them!!

This is my 3rd year hatching my own EE eggs and I'm getting some pretty neat colors that I haven't had or seen before. I have one roo that hatched out that looks Columbian- white with black in his tail and black points around his neck. I think he may get a light tan color over his back eventually, but hard to tell now. He has a sort of very pale pinkish shade to the white in the feathers in that area atm.

I also ended up with my first white/silver hen with black markings Previously all of my silvery white ones turned out to be roosters.

I hatched a few Buff Orpington/EE cross hens that look like various sized Orps with beards and one SLW/EE cross hen. I had crossed these to see if I could maybe get a larger green egg layer since my egg customers love the colored eggs. These are some 2nd gen crosses.

I will try and get photos this weekend.

I guess to me, I see EE's comparing to Ameraucanas as any other mutt or even purebred to them. There's not that much similarity except in cases like yours above which then, I'd say they are practically the same and no better or worse than the other. Otherwise, homemade ones especially, they're a whole other thing hardly comparable to Ameraucanas. Just my opinion. Anyway, here's a couple recent photos of some "homemade" ones. This first one is Araucana and Polish based, she's tufted, crested, got beard/muffs, and a tail. She'll lay a light blue egg in a couple months. My mottled pullet again. Her hairdo is just sooo awesome. It is maturing now to where it sweeps back and upward in a tight blunt point, much like it has been gelled that way. She's got style! And, here's a scruffy headed cockerel resting next to her. It's not all tophats and beards here though. This is an "Olive Egger" form of Easter Egger, she lays some nice olive green eggs and is Araucana based. She has a pretty plain body, but the most interesting color of a bright brick breast and steely blue throughout the rest of her body, complete with a rusty silver necklace. And last but certainly not least, Jubilee, my frizzled Easter Egger. She lays nice bright sky blue eggs, and is oh so soft to pet! As you can tell, I'm obsessed with her and I love her! She's like a great big pine cone, but soft! Behind her in this shot is another Easter Egger (err, two) The one on the left is a Buff EE with a crest and beard/muffs. The one on the right is more of a normal EE color, kinda orange with black bits. All these EE's are Ameraucana based.
Illa, your flock is stunning! I'm hoping I can convince my friizzled silkie rooster to breed my EE's when they are ready. He is really clumsy, and I have yet to see him successfully breed. He tries though.

Think I'll get something interesting? Hope the girls will stay on the smaller size. I have seen my other silkie rooster successfully mate my LF cochin, so it has to be possible, right?! :fl

It is possible he could breed anyone honestly. I once had a pair of Buff Ameraucanas in their own pen, and a few bantie frizzled Cochin boys running around loose. Well, one of them could actually squeeze his way into the pen if he wanted to but I stupidly wasn't concerned, he was small, couldn't hold a fight against the Buff boy, and even his frizzling would hinder him from successful breeding. Imagine having useless arms and trying to balance on a fluffy behemoth.

Well, I was wrong. The first entire batch that came out were all Cochin-based EE's.

I just want frizzles. This one was a pet of a breeder that did not even use him for breeding. He just called him his guard chicken, and he free ranged while everyone else were in breeding pens. I said I must have him. Took some convincing but he was mine. I am really looking forward to having some really funky looking chickens! :D

He did produce a few silkies at one time. I have one of his daughters. She looks 100% silkie. He only had two silkie hens and the frizzled silkie rooster, so anything other for the father would be impossible.

I know he CAN make chicks, but he seems so very clumsy lol.

Jeff your bird is very attractive and so unique. Are you sure that you could find another like her ?

Well, when I picked her up out of the livestock tank at the feed store, there were about a hundred others that looked just like her then.

Don't know if any of them would have developed the same, but let's say no...Paula being completely unique. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

She reminds me of Illia's "Olive Egger" in terms of feather and body shape, just different base colors. I love the big breasted look they have, though I hope that doesn't turn into the top-heavy shape of a meaty.
