The EE braggers thread!!!

I see girls yes but the last whitish one, the photos I can't tell much with, so it's up to you to inspect and tell yourself. Pick him/her up, inspect the feathers on the back (part the wings doing this) and look around, see any that are glossy, pointed and/or with a toothy edge? Glossiness and perhaps even a different color are the main things to look for. Those are the actual saddle feathers, they'll be just babies. The curving feathers going down the tail base are not real saddle feathers, at this age they're just little things. I see some on your definite red shouldered male. If you don't see such on the white one in question, it's a girl.

TY I will do that tomorrow....are you talking about the Gray headed tan with brown lacing chick or the whitish and Gray chick............?
the white/gray chick with the speckled head, is the one who is so fooling me the under color is gray except the tummy is white, and he/she ddoes not act like my males, but it is also my friendliest chick, the tan one is scared to death of me thats why I couldn't get a close picture she was too busy running away, the others are also more friendly, b ut the males are kinda scarey cats unless I have a treat like some wheat bread crust or something.hehe wish you lived closer to me .....you could come over for coffee and see the babies, so much easier than this newby trying to find anything,
Why is pea comb babies are so hard to sex, my straight combs, BR,BO,Dels, WW were easy I knew for sure by 4 weeks what was what...... guess I will have to keep all three and see who lays and egg hehehehe......... TYVM again Kim

Yep, pea combed babes are indeed hard to sex. I mean the reddish hinted one though. The black/white one shown earlier is a girl.

I have a question I been wanting to ask. I have 3 hens that where sold to me as Ameraucanas from a breeder. I have my doubts about that. I'm thinking EE. My question is besides color what is the main way to spot the different traits? I was scanning the Ameraucana thread but they are not friendly for the most part about EE's. At the point of being hostile at times. So I thought I would ask here first. All lay blue eggs

I really like that first one! She looks partridge or something. I am really into pattern genes and she has something going on.
I am sorry sorry you got the "hostile" vibe from the Ameraucana thread. I remember feeling the exact same way. In fact at one point I vowed I would never join the ameraucana breeders club. But I stuck it out, watched and learned and finally decided to join the club. I am very glad I did. I don't know what it is about ameraucanas. But maybe because it is a relatively new breed and the fact that hatcheries sell easter eggers that conform to no standard what so ever as Ameraucanas that it puts people who have spent many years and countless dollars perfecting the breed on the defensive.
I have been following the ameraucana thread for a couple years now and you would be surprised how many people post pics of total mixed birds and proudly claim they are ameraucanas. And even when told that they really aren't, those people insist and don't want to believe that their birds are not Ameraucanas....even when the president of the ameraucana breeders club is telling them that their birds are not what they think they are.

Your birds are beautiful but they do not conform to any of the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection colors for Ameraucanas. And that is why they are not Ameraucanas. Just laying a blue egg and having a muff and beard do not constitute and ameraucana.
But that does not mean they are not beautiful, I would very much like to take that first bird off your hands.

I like patterns and love projects.

Well said. I haven't actually been looking at the Ameraucana thread lately, as I've been too busy with my one little Am project to post or show off much there, but, last I knew people weren't and didn't mean to be rude about the whole Ameraucana vs Easter Egger thing, we just try and inform people the difference, and sometimes it gets a little frustrating because often newbies will believe a profit-run chick factory or a feedstore that hires for low wage over someone who's been working with the real thing long enough to understand what's all going on.

Also agreed, LOVE that red partridge colored gal. Looks much like the partridge color of a Rock.

I have a question, anyone have their EE's get "feathered" (think 70's era Farrah Faucett) head feathers after a molt??? I have several that have done that here are some pics of what I am talking about

These next pics the girls don't have funny head feathers.

This is noisy cheeks, I don't have many pics of her b/c she is the most neurotic chicken we have I really think she needs a script for Lithium.
Yes my bantam EE will be going on 3 this year and all of the sudden out of the blue she has the hair do and is extremely broody! Gotta love it. :) I will have to get a picture of my girl to compare.

Thanks I do Like her too. I got her last year as a 1 year old. But I'm thinking she was 2 years old. She and 7 others where in a pen with 46 roosters. They where all bald under sized and dull looking. I kept them in a hospital pen. Gave them anti-botics, de-wormer, vitamins, and feed them 1/2 layer pellets and 1/2 scratch. Roca became huge. But the nice heathers didn't come out till the molt.

Roca recovered after having her for 4 months.

Roca 10 months after I got her. Puts her around 3 years old.

I love Roca's color, she's very pretty

I took some bad cell phone photos of my EEs hatched this year finally.

Here is my "Columbian" roo.

One of the black Sexlink cross pullets. Her beard doesn't show up so well, but she has a pretty fluffy one.

EExBuff Orp roo in front, pullet in back. You sort of see that his white legs are starting to turn greenish.

The other Buff OrpxEE pullet. Her beard is just starting to come back in and her legs are starting to get greenish as well. She's huge, much more an Orp's size. Another of the black EEs is in the background

I'm trying to get better pictures of them. I was just in a hurry yesterday while I was waiting for the horses to finish eating, so I grabbed some with my cell. I will try and take my Nikon out this weekend and get better photos.

Texaschcick09 for your general information. If a sex link chicken is used in EE crosses, the offsprings will not be sex links but only the regular EEs.

That information is my my notes that I copied from BYC for further reference.

Well thanks, but I never assumed it would be a sexlink. I was just saying that is what I crossed my EE roo with to get solid black EEs (on my previous post to the photo one yesterday). I don't assume anything with chickens...lol.
