The EE braggers thread!!!

They are different in each state. In TN you have to have a license to sell eating eggs as FARM FRESH. The state does not allow you to candle them or grade them or size them.... that is their job.

I lost an EE pullet yesterday to a snake so today, I got to set all the EE eggs I had to replace her.....

How do you know which states need licensing? Im in NH and I have 12 pullets for a family of 5 and they will begin laying in roughly 2 weeks. I will have lots of eggs always on hand and was planning on selling enough to buy chicken feed with egg money(chickens need to pay for them selves since our very first egg is going to have cost us roughly $1500

the above is a copy/paste from chicken picken

It is amazing how so many of us have invested hundreds of dollars in our flock. I do understand all that you are saying. Around here, If I wanted to sell at the farmers market in this town I would frist need to buy a mercantile license to sell. If folks come to my house to pick up a few dozen eggs, it is only a donation and I do not need to give anyone money or undergo inspection. Other folks do the same. I know one familily who sell eggs to the local hardware store one town over from mine. He gets payed by the store a flat fee per dozen and they sell the eggs under their mecantile license and no one from the Farmer Deparment or any other regulatory body is aware that a few eggs are being sold. So don't tell them OK ?

Contact the Dept of Agriculture. They will tell you. In Georgia, you don't need the license if people are coming to your home or farm to buy your eggs. But, if you plan on selling them at a market somewhere, you need one. You need to know how to candle the eggs to make sure you are not selling eggs that are bad inside. You need to label the cartons with the correct information, expiration date, etc. And you need to adhere to the correct way to handle (wash, refrigerate, and transport) your eggs, etc.
