The EE braggers thread!!!

ahh I want a purring chicken! I have talkers but they really are pretty quiet. My EE has personality in spades. Very adventurous, always first out of the coop, always first to try something new. First to wander off and most times the others will follow and if they don't she comes back and trys to lead them off again. She is often getting into things and is always the last one in the coop at night. If she sees me out there she won't go to bed. Then she calls to the others trying to get them back out too. It's like she saying "I don't wanna go to bed!" She's a hoot! All my chickens are friendly, will come up to you and eat out of your hand but not a one wants picked up. When I get ahold of one they let me handle them. They are calm but they don't like it. I handled them gently every day until I put them outside. How are you guys getting these chickens that like being picked up or will sit on your laps? Just wondering. :)

Too funny! I have an EE pullet who jumps up in my lap (or on my shoulder) all the time... I have no idea what inspires that. She has been overly attached to me since I brought her home at 3 days old. Even during the first week she ran at my hand whenever she saw it and leaned up into it/cuddled. Now she jumps up in my lap and takes naps. Maybe you need to stick your hand in the EE bin at the feed store and see who comes running for cuddles. hah!

Here's photo evidence:

They are characters! My most "rebellious teenager" is also an EE... she's pretty much giving nonstop disapproving/judgmental glares at every human (and dog), all the time. She's very tame though. Just consistently stares at me like I am obviously insane (and gives unsolicited advice as well). That is, unless I am bringing her chard from the garden. In that case she is immediately my best bud and will stand on my arm or shoulder (or ANYTHING JUST ANYTHING) if necessary. Bribery. :D

Disapproving/judging glares:

I am new here, But I am so glad you all started this thread! I have 30 8 week old EE's and 1 6 month old Ameraucana (black) hen. I was sold the chicks under the impression they were Ameraucana's, and I got EE's...But you know what? I really prefer the EE's over the Ameraucanas, I have such beautiful colors coming through and I can't wait to see them full gown and see what color eggs I get..SO EXCITING! I am going to run out to their Luxury hotel(my husband calls their coop) and get some pics of them so you can see how beautiful they are.

I know! So many people comment about how they want Australorps in more colors, and how they like the variety they get in other breeds like Wyandottes, etc... Easter Eggers seem to be the red-headed step children of the Blue/Green egg laying world which just seems ridiculous since you have all of the variety you could ever ask for in an EE AND you get the blue/green/pink/etc egg. And they have such great temperaments.

When ever I show photos of my flock to my non-chicken owning friends and acquaintances (a.k.a. prosthelytizing backyard chicken keeping) , my Easter Eggers always get the most comments/compliments.

"Wow, that's a kind of chicken?"
"They look so hawk-like!"
"Blue eggs? What?! Wild!"

I'm so glad I have 'em in my flock.

AWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it! Only my 3 ducklings are that loveydovey with me. All my older girls are nice, but do not like being picked up during the day.... well I should say they just don't like the picking up part, they are calm & nice once being held. I have 6 younger chickens(about 3mths old) & the only barred girl will let me pick her up & will look to get picked up when I come out to the back yard. O yes my RIR is not squatting really, but now she will come up to me, let me pet her, pick her up, & ruffle her feathers lol (I think she laid a membrane egg in the coop the other day)

Both of yours have grown up to be very good looking chickens

P.S - One of my EE ladies gives those kind of looks & she always follows up with a throaty squawk to make sure I was paying attention to her stare :p

Here's my keeper roo from my first hatch. I bought the eggs on ebay.
I think I really lucked out, he is a splash laced red. I didn't intend to keep any cockerels, but there was no way I could part with him! He's about 6 months old now.

Thank you!
I need to find a good name for him, but I can't come up with anything that fits...

Here are my other EE's, I forgot I got some nice shots last week!

And my favorite of the big guy...I got right in his face while he was taking a dust bath...or dust nap LOL
