The EE braggers thread!!!

Idk, but he's pretty regardless! There is a way to check whether blue or lav by looking at the feather shafts, i think if the underside of the shaft is light from top to bottom it's lav, if it's a blackish blue than it's a blue? There is more to it but i'm not remembering right now. This is a splash, though

Blue looks different than lav. It is really VERY different you can see it. Now a light blue might get confused, but one you have seen the SILVERY look of a Lav you will not mix them up. I am pretty sure he is Lavender with some red coloring (like a wheaten) Lavender dilutes Black and Red and that is what is going on with that roo. Not going to say he is wheaten, I can't tell that from the pictures but he is lavender and red of some sort.

My two broody girls needed a higher room divider. This works a charm & my sister says it is very appropriate?!!??!!?. As you can see from my "room divider",I am an Aussie. I only gave them one egg each as I really do not need anymore but they were driving me crazy... Emily's egg,one of my cochins, hatched today- TINY chick but very sweet. Alice (my EE) not due for another 14 days.

I have a couple of CO-Broodies.... I may have to give them chicks. They just need to get over it.

Thats what I hoped-but every egg I took, they just sat on someone elses newly laid one & then both fought over the one egg. I need more hens but too many roos already & I am hopeless at culling!

I just give them away to someone that WANTS to cull roosters. I don't have time or space to keep all the roos I hatch.

Idk, i have both and the lighter blues look the same to me! My new roo is so pale a blue that had he not had the burnt red on him i would have wondered.......and all the birds shine! so i am still not sure. Before i had the lighter roo i thought i had it figured out! :p

If that bird IS a lav (porcelain is a lavendar pattern) I'd forget about the sex links and go that route!

The first generation chicks will be whatever and black, but breed those girls back to daddy and you (should) get some more Porcelain! Porcelain isn't a common color on the big birds, so they would be worth more.
(I am partial to the grey colors anyway :p ) The pattening might not be up to par, but the color would be there! The difference between lavendar and blue is that with blues you will get some black and splash when you breed them, but with lavendars as long as both parents have the color you will get lavendar babies!

I have been seriously considering using my porcelain d'uccle roo with my EE girls :)

A porcelain will not be quite that easy... the chicks will be split for wheaten and lavender. When you breed them back to him you will only get some of each. If you are going to work on porcelain, I would breed him to wheatens and THEN breed those Wheatens that are Split for Lavenders back to that roo. That color patter will take several breedings to get.
