i thought the only reason you don't use blue is confusion?

But you could keep the black laced ones to avoid confusion (only a percent will show blue) Otherwise you may think you have a lavender but only a blue.. The first set of chicks should only be carrying the genes, though, not actually showing the blue :) So if that's what you have i say just keep the non-blues :)

Would make it easier to sell the "rejects" that time around too, lots of people like the blue ones
No it is not confusion.... lavs and blues DON'T look alike. To get the best Lavs you need the right genes and those are going to come from a black not a diluted blue.

DMRippy,

we discussed a barred rock rooster fathering white chicks when crossed to a red sex link, you mention all would at least show some barring, and I said I have one white one that doesn't show barring. She does now. :p You were right!

Hey all,
Haven't been around in a bit. I am soo happppppppyyyy!!!! I now have an EE rooster!! For now I am calling him Road Runner. His first night with us he decided to leave the safety of the fowl yard & got in a scrapper with something. I went out the next morning to feed them and collect eggs -couldn't find him- started looking all over & found a bunch of tail feathers... :( I was so sad & about to head back in and put the feathers away when I heard a crazy chicken noise, it was him!!!!! He no longer has his glorious tail but I don't care, I'm just happy he now stays in the fowl yard thru the night & sticks close during the day. Hopefully all my ladies will warm up to him soon!
Here he is!
