Yes, I hope so too! Now that I have the 2 new chicks I can see how quickly they mature as well compared to the first two. I hope you are right and they all look different from one another, that's partly why I like the breed. Thank you!

Look very hard at their comb. Sometimes you can tell a roo at a young age by noticing if the comb has three ridges. I'm talking about 3 ridges wide. Look at the main comb and look at either side of it. Do you see three ridges? It will be really hard to see in such young chicks, but sometimes you can. And roos "feather" out more slowly around the neck and shoulders....not so much as just being smaller overall. Here is a photo of my roo marans... classic roo growth. Females tend to feather out more evenly around neck and shoulders. EEs are a little different....you can never tell, but, in another week, your chicks will begin to feather out more and there are some EE patterns that are pretty easy to read as female. Keep posting photos. Did you order females or straight run?I definitely will! Although I have other breeds these EEs are a little more exciting with all the unknowns. I've seen many other posts of people saying their slow to mature chicks turned out to be roos. Here is an example of the difference between my 2 week old EEs and my BO below. The Barred rocks are even more mature looking. They all arrived on the same day and the EEs were smaller.
How soon can you tell if they are roos?

2, Paris - BO, 2 weeks old
Chickens do better in a flock so maybe they are happier with more chicks with them. Happier chicks = healthier chicks. Also, it is amazing how fast their feathers can come in! I can sometimes see a difference from the morning feathers and their evening feathers! That is what is so fun about chicks! Chances are you have all females. Good luck! Keep us posted!I did order all females. I will check the babies when the light is a bit better, its very overcast today. Although, both EEs seemed to have a growth spurt in the past 2 days and suddenly seem to have feathers around their shoulders. Are these little growth spurts normal? That's the second time it's happened with these two. They had no wing/tail feather growth and then suddenly they did. Of course, it could be their coloring camaflauging them. Obviously, I'm new to this but have wanted chickens for years, they were my first order when I bought this farm last month.Thank you for all the info, it's very valuable!![]()
It is very likely the two that look identical as chicks will be quite different as adults. EE are notoriously hard to tell what the adult will look like from the chick.
Your girls are very pretty! So one of your definitely turned into a very different color than the chipmunk coloring she had as a chick. I'm going to ask a dumb question so please forgive me but...are the feathers coming in to the chicks now the color they will be as adults? I can tell my BO and Barred Rocks feathers are looking as they should as adults. My two brown ones from the first order have feathers looking much like the tail end of your second bird. Are there any websites where people post their "before (chic) and after (adult)" pics of EE birds? I'm taking weekly photos of mine so I can share with others once they are grown. Knowing how they will look is almost as exciting as getting a first egg for me.x2 on that.
Mine looked similar, they were chipmunk patterned. One had more grayish than brownish on the side of the brown stripe on her head. She grew up to be a lovely red/orange with a black edged necklace. She's been laying blue/green eggs for the last week. The other turned into a brown partridge and black head. She should be laying soon, she squatted on Monday![]()
