I am not trying to be rude and your set up looks like you have done this before but could it just be the ones in the corner are too hot

? Are they older with more feathers? Just a thought.

It was -20 in the barn, so I doubt it. Probably 70 under the heat lamps. They were just frightened of their new space.

I was admiring how much Cressida looks like an owl this morning. She even had some sort of ear-tuft-looking-thing going on.

Meanwhile, Maggie and Chickie have formed some sort of unlikely friendship in their mutual disdain toward the pullets. Chickie (who is in the front in the first two pictures) will be 8 years old at the beginning of April this year, while Maggie (the lady black-beard) will only be 2 come May.

Maggie has a talent for giving me evil looks.

HI I was just curious if someone can tell me if this is normal or not. I hatched out chicks 2 weeks ago and I noticed 2 of my EE chicks seem to have really long toes that slightly curl.

Honestly though I really wasn't impressed with Ideal's chicks they all seemed very weak. I think the EE's and speckled sussex were the only ones who were half way decent. The rest really didn't grow well..

Doesn't match my Ideal Poultry experience. Mine were shipped 6/13/2012. The Cubalayas were squished in a corner when we opened the box but all twelve girls (and they were ALL girls!) did quite well. Other that a couple with a few days of pasty butt, they had no problems and grew well.

Here is a link that may be helpful. Sometimes curled toes can also be caused by specific vitamin deficiencies, if that is the case quickly adding it may correct the problem! Scroll down to "riboflaven may correct curled toes" to read about it, and earlier in the article there was a list of where to obtain the necessary vitamins. If it's twisted toes, chick shoes can also help, that is the next section.

they are so huge and fluffy, I had an EE rooster over an assorted mix of hens, the JG hen was splash, so all of her chicks are blue, She's now with a Black JG pair.

This is the daddy to the above EE cross chicks, you can see they are starting to molt

I have a 5 month old boy that just started crowing last week, that looks just like yours and a girl that looks just like your black & white one. I suppose I ought to get out and take some more pics this week. Just wish they'd hurry up and start laying!

My silver Ameraucana laid her first pullet egg yesterday! Hooray! She hatched on Easter last year so I've been waiting a good while now. So, while she isn't an EE, I don't have a silver Am mate for her so all she can do is make EEs since she's in the big group that includes two EE cockerels. I'm so excited!

So on the 6th I put 42 eggs in the bator - last night I candled them because I'm impatient & excited to see if there will be any legacies...... So out of the 42 -- about 26 so far confirmed veins!!!! I know it's early so I will be candling on Fri or Sat to check again to see how things are. 2 of them will be EE/EE & the rest are all(should be) part EE. My EE roo Road Runner & the other mommas are Barred Rock, NH, RIR, and Australorp.

I will put up some updated photos of Road Runner, Beatrice, & Ethel.

Last night there was a blue egg and a green egg in the coop. So someone else has started up! I'll have to see if I can catch them in the act this weekend. Yay!

Im excited because one of my EE started laying again. They stopped laying back in Oct. Now I have my green eggs back.
