The EE braggers thread!!!

Haha! Too funny. Mine weren't too excited about the small amount of snow we had here in Arkansas. They would really give me the stink eye is we had as much as you do.

**snorts** If we had snow, mine wouldn't even leave their coops...I'd probably see mini-bonfires going and smoke coming out the ventilation as they huddled around cursing the weather and stamping their feet.

As it is, when it drops below 50 they come out, get food/water and go back in (or gobble down their warm, morning mash as quick as possible). We don't see them out and about unless it's at least 60. Spoiled, South Texas birds...

Sparkle, the first chicken hatched on my property and one of the most interesting-looking hens that I've had, has been eaten by either a dog or a fox. I saw both in the area, and each now has a death watch on them. When I put the gang up, yesterday evening, Sparkle didn't make bed check, and was no where to be found. This morning, all I found were feathers and feet, in the driveway. Now, we'll never see what her blue eggs would have hatched. Dammit!

Sparkle and her 1st egg. The neighbors have been talked to enough. The dogs have to stay in their pen, or sleep in the creek.

I'm sorry! That is so sad! What a beautiful girl she was. Those foxes are so fast, even if you see it happen there isn't much you can do. I think if it was a dog you would have found more remains. We have four dogs kenneled near our coup and where the chickens free range. We haven't had any losses since we put the kennels there. But I did have a scare 2 days ago when a very large, bold coyote trotted right past the coup and my barking dogs and didn't blink an eye. I had one dog out and when she saw it, she chased it off the property. I ran outside and did a head count immediately. Thankfully nobody had been eaten. It really scared me though. I think the wild animals are starting to really get hungry this time of year. Winter decided to hit us hard again so the wild life is becoming more bold and less fearful in order to find food. That is the only thing I can think of.

Some pics I got of my guys yesterday.

Rosco 11 mths.

Beau is in the middle. All that fluff is covering up his eye.

If they start meowing I will be worried.

Penny is by far my favorite hen. Her feathers are filling out nicely. I cant wait until she starts to lay and I get to see what color.

She is the one who will hop up in your lap to see whats in your glass because it might be a snack for her. She also expects me to pick her up and hold her so she can eat out of the bird feeder.

Strawberry is front left. Dolly is the black and white middle left. She is camera shy.

Strawberry on the other hand is a camera hog. When I got her I was told she was laying olive eggs. That's been a moth ago and She hasn't laid a thing for me.

I just love my EE's and cant wait to get more.

Quote: I agree with Outrun Acres, I think it was the fox. I have had both dog and fox kills.. and domestic dogs do not eat everything but the feet - only the fox did that. The dogs just killed it - and went playing elsewhere - they weren't hungry - just thought it was fun. The fox was hungry.

I would warn your neighbors to keep their dogs cooped up until you get rid of the fox, tell them you don't want to get their dogs by mistake...?

I love all the markings on your chicks face. It will be interesting to see how she feathers out. So far she is very beautiful and striking in color.

I love the color variety in your flock. Too fun. I wish I bought some EE's last year. I feel like I have been missing out. Can't wait until mine feather out and start laying. It feels very strange to get this excited over birds. But these guys are just too cool!
