The EE braggers thread!!!

I haven't the slightest idea but I bet she will be a beautiful adult.

That ratio is disheartening. Hopefully the beautiful boys go to good homes, perhaps with someone who breeds.

We did find homes for 3 of them so far, I have to put out one last call for the boys before they start crowing- unfortunately, I live in a small isolated town and it's been really challenging!

Craig's list? Post some good pictures with the ad. I never look at Craig's list ads if there are no pictures.

If people are looking for EE roosters, they will be willing to look outside their immediate area, everyone having their own "max distance" of course.
Heck where BETTER to look for free roosters than in areas where they aren't allowed to be kept? There are lots of towns and cities like that and we know sexing chicks is not a perfect science.

I just posted one up actually with some pics :) ! Unfortunately I live somewhere that involves a $120 return ferry trip - which makes it tricky, but we're going to the island just after Christmas, so as long as the boys can hang on and not crow before then, I'm happy to make some deliveries to the city!

Boy that sure does put a crimp in a time sensitive situation. My sympathies.

I'm telling you, we need a "Chicken Express"! SOMEBODY has to be going on the ferry every day, no? Maybe you could make nice with the crew and see if any are interested enough in chickens, or just helping out, and would be willing to take them as "freight" as long as there will be someone at the landing to pick them up.

There is a way, there is ALWAYS (OK, almost) a way.

That would be so fantastic! And I'm sure possible. I'm going to do my best for sure! I was so sad to have to see my Black Copper Maran boys go because they started crowing right at 10 weeks and I only found homes for 3 of them by that point.

Looks like my EE'r Glenda found the Garland...and someone else knows they've been caught, my CW'dotte Patty looks to be sneaking away looking a bit guilty!! Haaa

Glenda the EE'r again, this time she's peeking in the window....

I recently got 4 EE chicks. The 2 from My Pet Chicken have tufts on their cheeks - they were obvious immediately when I opened their box. The two I received this week from Meyer Hatchery do not have tufts (unfortunately the prettiest one died). Are the cheek tufts a typical EE trait? I have seen chicks on this thread without them. Does it have anything to do with the color egg they may lay or male/female trait?
Sorry about your little chick.
Beards and cheek muffs show the Ameraucana heritage of the EEs, but they have no relation to egg color or gender. The best predictor of the bird carrying the blue egg gene is the presence of a pea comb. Genes for these two traits lie very close together on the chromosome and are usually inherited together. Pea combs are not a 100% guarantee, but the chances are better for green or blue eggs if your EE pullets have them. Male chicks tend to have more prominent combs with three ridges (this is for pea combs), while females have only a single central ridge. Around 5 weeks, the combs on the males will typically turn bright pink, while pullet combs stay pale until it's time to lay. Again, not 100% accuracy here, but this is usually the best first indicator of sex.

Glenda the EE

Such fun personalities! She's getting ready for Santa!

We just picked up our first EE! She is trying to adapt to her new home, even though she did not get a grand welcome from a couple of her new sisters. She did give us a sample of what is to come! First morning at her new home and we got our first slate colored egg from her.

That's awesome! Usually a move will cause stress and they stop laying for a while. Pretty egg, too! Yay EEs!
