Betty is non-confrontational. She wants to sleep on the nest box shelf to avoid confrontation.

She apparently also wants to look the part--she's almost egg-shaped from fluffing out so much.

She is a pretty girl. Are you sure she isn't just cold.. or broody? That's what mine look like in either state... I have a Mottled Houdan who sleeps in the nesting box because she is cold.. and I had two broodies earlier this year who looked like that for awhile...

Yes, she's definitely cold. She's also molting like most of the other hens and they're all moody. It's like a war zone in that coop at perch time. I'm pretty sure she's going over there mostly to avoid getting pecked.

Ah HAH - major chicken PMS going on then.

I noticed tonight my banties they were squacking a lot while trying to perch - and anytime one of the hens got knocked off there were 3 roosters after her.. poor girls. I bet they wish they had egg boxes to hide in. Maybe I will work on that for them...

Please Help! This my 10 month old pullet. Today i went out to feed chickens and i saw her outside.and i thought how cute she was sitting bby herself all huudled up. I went over and picked her up to take her inside, and then i saw her eye. She wasn't like this the other day. See can't see she can't open either eye but some how she manged to find the food and was eating. But i put warm water around her and it didnt help. I how no idea what wrong or how to treat it. So if you have any idea what might be wrong with her please tell what i could do to fix her eyes. She is one of my favorite chickens and i dont want anything to happen to her.
