The EE braggers thread!!!

Did you get your NNs from Dipsy? I have 9 in the incubator now! They were really really big green eggs! Hope to get lots of pullets! And, how much are you selling your eggs for?
I got my NNs from Jamie Carson in Canada.

I sell my eggs $4 a dozen. They're free ranged, and non-medicated (ie Natural) as I can't afford to be certified organic ;)

I got a little surprise this morning. My EE hen that has been going broody off and on (so didn't know if she was 'serious' this time) has a little chick with her this morning! Of course it finally froze here last night so perfect timing on her part LOL. Now I gotta go get a little bag of chick food for just one chick since its the only one we have around here right now. He is a funny looking chick all black with brown splotches on his face.

I have a question: I have 2 polish silkies that are pure white, a Roo and a Hen. I also have 2 pure white Production Blue hens who started laying their beautiful blue eggs last week. As the Prod Blues are Amie crosses and have nice beards, if I cross them with the Polish Roo, do ya'all think they'll be white with beards and hippy heads and lay blue eggs? Or...will the silkie genes ruin the blue egg laying? I am going to try, and don't mind either way, so long as I get a white hen with a hippy head and a beard! The whole thing has my buddies howling at me. They think it's such fun, laughing at me and my chickens.

I should say that I raise, primarily, Ameracaunas, but have an EE main Roo, and quite a few lil cross breeds running around now. ALL of the nlil Hens that we've sprouted have carried the blue/green/whatever egg gene, with one exception...ever seen a lavender egg? Go figure, and it's a beautiful egg! The people near me always marvel when they see my OD Green/speckled, green, blue, turquoise eggs. They want to know how I made my chickens do that. I always tell them that it's all the girls' doin's, and none of mine save for the feeding them part. It amazes me that people aren't even aware that regular, wild birds lay colored eggs, too. Why is it so far-fetched that a chicken can do it?

I have a 3 pairs of true Ameracaunas to raise with, this Spring, and I'll be seeing what they hatch out, but I still plan to do all of my odd crossing, still. I am still working on getting a true Blue Sebright, and now have 2 Hens that have Sebright traits/blood and the blue coloring. Chickens are the poor man's means for genetic experimentation, I think.
