I have noticed that many of us are getting the silver-colored, splashy chickens. I think someone said they think it's a faded Columbian?
Also, what I think of as a "Paint Horse" chicken, such as the top pic of the snake pics posting. That multi-colored, but mostly white, Roo? I have a few like that from this past year and think they're gorgeous.
As for having the twin to that one Amie/EE Hen? I have her other siblings. That is what I think of as standard colorartion for most EE's. As a note: to the poster who said they were given "Ameracaunas", I was sold Auracaunas, tho I knew otherwise as they had tail chunks. They are Ameracauna/EE chickens. I won't argue with the Amie folk about it, but that is what I see whenever I look at pics of Amie hens, sooo....."uppityness" gains you exactly nothing. I try not to be judgemental, especially when people have beautiful chickens. I think people have a tendency to get uppity when they feel that they lack something in some other aspect of their lives. EE raisers tend to just love pretty chickens that lat cool colored eggs, and not worry about much other than that. That is the main reason that I tend to "hang out in here" more than other threads. No insult to them, but when you have 1 or 2 that get snippy, I tend to shy away. This is for fun. I try to keep it that way.
I have noticed that the Sebright folks, even tho they have a claim to a TRUE unique bird, don't tend toward that "uppityness", either. They simply pointed out what breeds they thought my lil Banties are, and said, they would make beautiful chicks if bred with a pure-bred Sebright. I am trying to make "Blue Sebrights, btw. Lord Sebright bred them as an experiment, in the 1800's and coined the phrase "Natural Selection" and the theory which is attributed to Darwin, even tho Darwin got the term from him and invited him to speak on the matter. Lord Sebright allowed how the stronger Roo, and the stronger genes, will be the ones to continue through future generations. I hope that I'm not preaching to the choir, but I thought that was all very interesting, when I read about the Sebright Chicken. I am actually thinking of breeding an EE hen with a Sebright Roo, when I get adult 'Brights.
I am currently breeding pure white EE's that lay a green egg (I bought them for blue egg hens, but their eggs are a beautiful green, not olive, but mint green?) to a Polish Hippy-headed Roo, in hopes of getting a white hen with a beard and hippy hair. I am silly, I guess, but I wanna do it. They've been breeding, daily, for about 3 days, now. hehe We''ll see, won't we?
I'll have to post a day's egg gathering to show the amount and color variation, but have been waiting for the hen that lays a lavender egg, to lay again. I can't figure out which one it is. Out of 36 hens, it gets hard to see which egg comes from which chicken! haha! I did want to show what the girls lay considering that some girls are now 3-4 years old, and Mississippi has been in the 20's many, many nights the past couple of months. We have days up in the 40's-70's, and nights from 20's-40's, and my girls just keep at it, tho they did slack off a bit.
