Question. I lost my only rooster recently that free ranged all the time, he was a stray. We are adding on to the run and moving a coop out to house some bantams. One is a silkie rooster the other 3 are hens. Should he have his own pen? I don't do any breeding. I have 6 EE's in one pen, 4 EE's and 2 bantams in the other so I want more space and wondering should you house the rooster with the hens or not , so while we are building we can do it all at one time.

both, each have 2 copies, could be white, brown, or blue. Chick gets one copy from each parent.
Thats how you get green/olive eggers. Breed a brown egg layer to a blue/green egg layer, and chicks have 1 blue gene and 1 brown gene, so they lay green/olive eggs.

The egg shell is either white or blue, and the brown is an over coat. Check the inside of the next few eggs you open

I would leave him with the hens unless you don't want fertile eggs. Good luck!

I have a question for those who have incubated your EE eggs, We are having trouble seeing through the green ones to look for development when candling. We could see through the brown ones at one week, the green ones we still can't see through and we're day 11. Does this mean its not developed or should we give it more time?
