The EE braggers thread!!!

Are you able to sleep with a light on? You know even if you check right before you go to sleep, then if you need it, take a quick trip out during the night to check in on them. (Your safety first, of course) And then get up extra early in the morn to check again. You get the exercise to help drive out that adrenaline that's keeping you in that flight or fight mode.
I ALWAYS check them in the morning and night, but my attacks are so bad I can't even walk near the kitchen or back door (they are close) nore can I look that way and if I walk away from I feel like something is fallowing me. Every noise I hear I think it's happening all over again and my heart races 90 to nothing.. Sleeping I'm sleeping ok, but I tend to take a while to go to sleep or I am up and down up and down ect from all the fear

I am so sorry for your loss and all your heartache! I am very new to BYC and to chickens. But I do have a pitbull mix dog who is also a hunter. That said we are using heavy gauge welded wire for the runs for our chickens and on the outside of that we will be running electric fence wire to keep all critters and dogs out of my chicken runs and pens. All animals respect the electric fence!
Oddly it doesn't faze my mom's german shepphard

Hey again, I want to say something, and I know right now, it will be hard to believe. This too, will pass.
The overwhelming anxiety will pass, if you will work on it and allow it. Will it take time? Yes!

Difficult? Absolutely!
Necessary? It must or it will destroy you.
Like any good momma, give yourself permission to survive and carry on for the good of others. It's tough and it sucks!

I would be the same as you if something like this happened to our flock.
Anxiety, let me tell you, I know a lot about that!
Always wanting and being unable to have children due to the big "c" and chemo, 3 times, was just about enough to do me in. But for the love of chickens, a good husband and a loving Creator, I'm still here!

You can get through this, the road is just going to be a little bumpy for a while. Stay in touch if you like.

Wow. You go girl!

so far she's the friendliest of our chickens. Princess Sofia the First....
funny
If you want really wild coloring - try a crested Swedish Flower Hen rooster over some EEs... that has been done and I understand they are really cool.... and SFH roosters are easier to find.
yes a SWF over a Lavender/blue Ameraucana would be cool.

As I've posted in the Araucana and RIR threads, I got 13 chicks recently, mixed breed chicks from a flock of EE, Araucana, Marans, and RIR. I'm pretty sure most of them are just going to be called EEs, especially until we see their egg colors, because it seems difficult to my inexperienced eye to tell some of the subtle differences between breeds (other than the obvious cheek tufts, rumplessness, feathered legs). Here are 3 from today that are very distinct from the rest. They are a little over 3 weeks old.

Hank- he seems like a boy to me. His legs are very white too, I think he's the only chick with white legs.

Poe. I'm hoping this one is a girl because I really love her coloring and she's the most friendly with me:

Penny. At first I thought boy, but she seems to be growing into her legs. I don't know, she sure is pretty in any case;

Beautiful wild coloring. The first one reminds me of the Wheaten chicks - and that is proper coloring for a boy. The second looks like so many of my EEs did when they were young. The third... never had one that coloring before. Really cool to see what they grow up to be like!
