The EE braggers thread!!!

Thanx for that info. I haven't called him yet :-/ after her next egg I think I will, dunno what to say yet lol "hey mister! the plants I gave you are amazing, the blue egg layer you promised is a dud? maybe there was a mix up?" Lol Ug ya right I know, maybe ill let my four year old call him, ill tell her hes the one she needs to tall to about hiding her blue eggs! dang. Back on the hunt for another! Chicken math variables!

As I understand it, the coating lightens through the laying cycle so a brown egg gets lighter brown. Theoretically, then, a green egg would get more blue. Personally, I haven't noticed any difference in my green egg hen's egg color -- I see the effect mostly with the Marans.

There are different intensities of blue with some more pastel and others more vivid but I don't see any blue to that egg on my screen. I suspect either the seller lied to your face or had no idea what color egg she lays. Have you contacted that individual?

You're right, I hate to assume - I shall crack it and hope for a tint inside I read- also read sometime shades change but not colors. Shades I understand changing. But not to white :-( he was pretty specific on color, explaining she laid a nice blue/green one that morning so it may be a day. I'd like to think it wasn't intentional. I'll ask him tomorrow afternoon...I worked hard on making sure my end was held up, teasing my daughter bout blue or green eggs and I just had my feathers ruffled not getting what I expected. :)

You shouldn't assume someone is a liar.  We have lots of EE's and we get lots of blue and blue green eggs.  And yet sometimes for weeks at a time most of the eggs look nearly white.

I am wondering if he grabbed the wrong chicken? If he was that specific about the egg color.. maybe he has one that lays the white and one that lays a bluer one. I have two EEs that lay a really nice blue egg, but they look almost exactly like one I have that lays a white egg... could be simple confusion

That'd be awesome lol we'll see...I'll give him a ring tomorrow (stuck at work) fingers crossed she was outta ink or he grabbed the wrong one! I don't know how many he had, he said he had Banty chickens and this girl was too big and picking on them so it worked out for him :) maybe he has others that were just nicer... Ultimately its my fault for exciting my lil girl prematurely & trusting craigslist (if not a mix up) but I do love the mutts! And trusting people :)

Wasn't saying the interior changes. The outside color was what was being talked about.

A blue egg is blue because it has a blue shell inside and no brown coating. It's not sprayed blue on the way out. The only way I know for a blue egg to look lighter than usual is if it's hazy or chalky from a double-dip of bloom or excess calcium.

And to the OP, I'm all about giving the benefit of the doubt which is why I suggested contacting the seller. They might have gotten a blue egg today that they weren't expecting and are wondering how that happened. But I wouldn't hold my breath...

I had gotten pre-"egg"-cited...
It's a problem I have...only cures a blue or green layer...oh no I heard someone in LA has Marans* chocolate layers! Shoot... After the aqua colors-
I see a relapse in my future.

Beware, color variety is addictive. I don't have olive yet but next time I want to add, guess what I'll be adding? I already know where to get them.

I am so excited! I got what was labled as "Araucana" at Rural King. I doubt very seriously that they are. I don't really care if they are Araucana, Americana, or EE, I just want some green or blue eggs!
