The EE braggers thread!!!

I'm loving all the pics! They are so pretty that there's no way I could pic a favorite!

Here's my 2 girls. The first one is BA (short for Bad ***, which is my 18 year old son's, kind of), and the other is Lucy. They both just started laying recently and have eggs that are blue-green but more on the blue side.

Your two girls look just like two of mine!! I have posted on another thread because I was hoping that someone could help me sex them...your black and white one gives me hope, I have had 2 people say female, 2 say roo for my Cleo who is her twin! You've got some pretty ladies :)

This my be a dumb question but here goes..... I bought quite a few "Americana" chicks this spring and I have read so many times that they are actually called Easter Eggers and probably not Americanas. A few of them look just like the ones on this thread but I have a few that are mostly one solid color and have yellow-orange legs instead of the green. Could they be full blooded Americana? Do all Easter Eggers have the darker legs? I know they will all lay the blue-green egg but not sure why they look so different.I am so confused....... This is one of the ones that has me puzzled........

EEs can all look so different, even from the same parents- it's like playing genetic roulette!

If some are obviously EEs, the others probably will be too even if they look similar to true Ameraucanas.

There is no guarantee that they will lay blue-green eggs. Generally speaking (not always) the blue egg gene is closely related to the pea comb, beard & muff genes. So the lady in the pic may very well just be a barnyard mix and lay a brown egg, only time will tell. Hope it turns out good though!

Where did you get your chicks? I suspect one of two things has happened. Either you bought from someone who is breeding their EEs to each other and this is the result (lots of genetic variation) or you bought from a farm store that mixed the chicks up and you have a few production reds. When a chick has none of the typical EE traits, the odds aren't good that they'll lay blue or green eggs.

I got the ones that I know are Easter Eggers from a local breeder but they were straight run and I wanted a few more.....but sexed ......so I went to a local feed store claiming to be selling "Americana pullets". They claimed they were resale from a hatchery. A friend of mine got Wyandottes there and hers were beautiful but I think mine are not going to be what I wanted. Here is a pic of a few... They ones in the middle look good ( I think) but the others look too much like my Rhode Island reds for comfort.
