The EE braggers thread!!!

My EE rooster just died due to sour crop

I was going to use him for breeding next year. I only have one other roo and I have 28 hens. How many hens can one roo handle to keep all of them fertile? I am so devastated.

I have read that 15-17 is the max for good fertility .

If he is a young roo he will probably still get the job done. I have an EE roo who just came of age. Didn't think he could be getting the job done but everything has bulls eyes and my hen has 7 she is setting on that are all appearing viable (will know for sure in about a week) I have 22 hens.

I have one coop that I use for broodies and babies. I call it my Nursery, lol. I also have a very gentle Rooster that is lame that stays there most of the time to keep the other fellas from picking on him...HE is actually brooding some 2 week old chicks right now that momma decided to be done with. It is a 12 X 12 coop, very open air so several broodies can be in there at once, whether sitting eggs or brooding.
It s a really good set-up.

You should be able to find a decent Ameraucana Rooster. You will have a much better chance of getting what you want than playing hatchery lottery for a good daddy. He will make alot of EE's for you!
Sorry for your Loss, our EE Rooster was one of our first birds and we would hate to loose him!

I wish I could. I just don't want to take a risk getting one and it has a disease and wipes out all of my girls. I think I will just separate the ones I really want to hatch eggs from and keep them with the roo and put the rest in another pen so he should be able to have the ones I want fertile. I loved my bacon. He was so nice and was so pretty and when I picked him up he just layed in my arms like a baby.

I'm going to miss him.

Lol IKR! I ordered the eggs because I had the broody though. It was a logical decision since I only have a pair of D'uccle that aren't laying yet, and she was broody anyway, y not let her hatch some more for next year!! LMBO!

Yea she is! Blondie (that's her name:D ) has blue in the neck and tail instead of black. All of my EE's this year are beautiful.

Yes all of our EE are pretty as well, like Blonde!
