The EE braggers thread!!!

Eggs come in 2 base colors. White or Blue. There are stories of pink, but the jury is still out on that.
Brown eggs are actually an outer coating some breeds put on the shell. If you look at a cracked brown egg, the shell is actually a white shell.
This colored coating can come in various shades, from a very light, almost cream to a dark chocolate. Sometimes just the right amount can seem "rosey".
Blue eggs as well come in many shades.
When the brown coating is applied to blue eggs, usually you'll get some shade of "green". However, with the many shades of blue and brown...other colors are possible. A reddish tinted brown on a heavily blue egg can look almost purple. Usually though as the chicken lays more, both the egg color and coating tend to lighten and your purple gets more green.

Is My chicken an Ameraucana? Officially the answer is "If it does not meet the Ameraucana Breed Standard, it is not an Ameraucana." Part if that standard is color, if it's not a standard color, it's not an Ameraucana.
I would personally add..." unless it's an accepted project color " Even Ameraucan Breeders have no qualm with calling a Lavendar an Ameraucana.

As for the combs, with the mixed genetics of EE's, unless you know what the parents genetics are, you can get a lot of different combs!!

What color Orps are you putting with that Lavender Ameraucana?

My orpingtons are Blue,Splash, Lavender and Jubilee

That is sad to hear.
Since it seems to be a common problem as of late, can anyone educate us on the causes and treatments of sour crop or impacted crop?

Sour crop is when something blocks food from passing into further digestion such as a rock that gets stuck. The food that is in the crop ferments then and bacteria builds up and will eventually kill it if not treated. My EE roo just died from it. It is just a freak thing to happen. I read that you can feed him live yogurt because yogurt has good bacteria in it. Also hold them upside down so fluid and stuff drains out. It smells REALLY bad. I did that and stuff came out, but the next morning he was dead.

Sorry about your rooster.

I had a hen get sour crop several months ago. Thought I'd lose her even with treatment. She's just fine now and put back on the weight she'd lost. 14 days of treatment later and much complaining about crop massage, she was getting better.

Any idea on what color these may end up being? Father is a new hampshire mix and mothers were EEs.

I do plan on getting better pics. The yellowish one has a blue/silver stripe down the back and a reddish head. There's another one just like it except the head isn't red. From a distance, their backs look blue. The gray in front is my favorite. The black is a black sex link I believe. I just wanted to know if there is anything significant about the blue/silver backs....

Here is one of my beautiful EE girl. She is supper friendly. Dottie is about 18 weeks old now and seems to be the leader of the flock. She gets more and more pretty every day. She has an eagle eye look to her.

Jumping in to share the joy of my new 3mo EE hens! I started with 4 "barnyard mix" chicks that appear to mostly black australorp, but 2 of the 4 ended up being roos. So...I found some EE hens that are already a month older than my BA mixes to replace the roos (plus an extra one - chicken math) and I am so excited! I am a first-time chicken owner and after researching all the breeds I really, really, really wanted EEs for their personality and definitely for their fun egg colors. Here are my 3 big girls (and my 2 adorable littles - they probably have some EE in them, but like I said they are mixes).

The lady in the front is named Magician and is my only named chicken. The EE beside her is part of her 'gang', which also includes a buff/white splashed EE. Magician lays a light blue egg and the orange lays a light pink egg. The buff white lays a pink/blue egg haha.
