My marans hen finally started laying about a week ago... at 40 week old! They are all on their own schedules. I have one backyard mix from my august hatch that looks like she could start laying any day... but the pullets from my July hatch look like they are still weeks or months from laying.

When I had Marans they took forever to start laying. Didn't really figure it up but I would say that it was about that long for mine.

I have an EE 32 weeks old that hasn't laid yet. Her sisters laid at 26 weeks and 29 weeks. At least Miss 32 Weeks is starting to squat and check out the nest boxes.

I'm going to separate my EE's out for breeding February first. I should have chicks on the ground by April first.

OMG Herbgir1972 you have some beautiful birds. Can you please tell me what color the black and white patterned EE is called, as well as the beautiful multicolored EE. I have never seen those colors before. Had to laugh at your video, hopefully it was just your phone that was pecked.

Not Herbgirl, but the black and white one is Silver Duckwing with Columbian.

The other is what I'd call Wheaten, but Ameraucana breeders may disagree with me.

I do know our black & white guy is from black ameraucana hen x SLWyandotte roo
The wheaten guys mama was a red ameraucana hen x roo unknown.
Good to know the coloration names, since I'm breeding these guys with my layers as soon as they are ready
